MARTHA ROSE CARPENTER

Martha Rose Carpenter died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 57.

Born in Coffeeville, Mrs. Carpenter had lived in Vicksburg for the past 37 years. She was a former cafeteria manager at Cooper Lighting and had worked at One Hour Martinizing.

She was a member of Goodrum Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Minnie Bardo, Louise Jaco and Ann Oliver Melton; and three brothers, Gene Whitman, Bill Whitman and Eulice Whitman.

Survivors include her husband, Gardner Carpenter of Vicksburg; a son, Mike Carpenter of Vicksburg; two daughters, Rhonda Hall and Leisa Russell, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, Walter Whitman of Fayetteville, S.C., and Jake Whitman of Enid, Okla.; one sister, Edwina Jaco of Batesville; seven grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Karen Mixon and Crystal Rouse.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Goodrum Baptist Church with the Revs. Ray Spence, Sam Dunaway and Rusty Anderson officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Elam Cemetery in Coffeeville.

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Mike Rouse, Danny Rouse, Robert Morgan, Don McArthur, Justin McClure, Eric Kitchens, Toby Jenkins and Rocky Fowler.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Bryant, Dr. Michael Davis, Dr. Anita Tribble, Donald Cross, Owen McWhorter and the staff of Renex Dialysis Clinic.

Glenwood Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

WILLIE RUNNELS

Willie Runnels died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. He was 72.

A native of Jefferson County, Mr. Runnels had lived and worked in Vicksburg for a number of years. He was a member of Beech Grove M.B. Church and had worked as a golf course groundskeeper.

He was preceded in death by a son, Willie Miller; his parents, Walker Reynolds Sr. and Alice Brooks; and two brothers, Walker Reynolds Jr. and Harrison Reynolds.

Survivors include a son, Donnie Hicks of Vicksburg; a daughter, Belinda Gray of Vicksburg; a sister, Maggie Hill of Vicksburg; a brother, James Reynolds of Vicksburg; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

Robbins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

CHARLES SCOTT JR.

Charles Scott Jr. died Monday, July 23, 2001, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. He was 45.

Born in Wurzburg, Germany, Mr. Scott was a 1974 graduate of Vicksburg High School. He attended Jackson State University. He was a school attendance officer with the Mississippi State Department of Education with 16 years of service. He was a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge No. 414 and Mount Heroden M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Evelyn Scott; his grandfather, Oscar Scott; three uncles, Robert Scott, Eugene Scott and George Scott; two aunts, Evelyn Hopkins and Margaret Thomas; his mother-in-law, Ann McDonald; and his father-in-law, Amos McDonald.

Survivors include his wife, Omeria McDonald Scott of Laurel; his father, Charles Scott Sr. of Vicksburg; his stepmother, Lillie M. Scott of Vicksburg; and other relatives including Mamie Spellman and Eddie Scott, both of Vicksburg and James Scott of New Orleans.
