Garland M. Nevels
Garland M. Nevels Sr. died Friday, July 27, 2001, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on U.S. 28 in Jefferson County. He was 67.
Nevels was a retired police officer with the New Orleans Police Department, a U.S. Marines veteran and a member of several hunting clubs in the Lorman area.
He was proceeded in death by his father, Thomas H. Nevels and Edna Kellogg Nevels.
Survivors include his wife, Rena Constantine Nevels of Lorman; a son, Garland M. Nevels Jr. of Metairie, La.; a daughter, Laurie Nevels Lightell of Metairie; two brothers, Thomas Nevels of Ponchatoula, La., and John Max of Kenner, La; a sister, Billie Sue Lightell of Lorman; two grandchildren, Kyle and Chelsey Lightell of Metairie; and other relatives and friends.
Rollins Funeral Home of Fayette, Miss. will be handling the arrangements.
Mabel G. Mayerhoff
Mabel G. Mayerhoff died Friday, July 27, 2001, at her son’s residence in Vicksburg. She was 88.
Mrs. Mayerhoff was a homemaker, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Crawford Street United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo D. Mayerhoff Sr.; sister, Gladys Barfield; and two nephews, Charles and Henry Barfield.
Survivors include a son, Leo D. Mayerhoff Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Sylvia Mayerhoff ; and a granddaughter, Amanda Paige Mayerhoff, all of Vicksburg.
Graveside services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Geoffrey Joyner, pastor of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Fisher-Riles Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Monday until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Garner, Dave Waddell, Kevin Garner and Chuck Barfield.
