BILLY JACK ADAMS

Billy Jack Adams died Friday, July 27, 2001, at the Ross Barnett Reservoir. He was 71.

A native of Purvis, Mr. Adams lived in Houston, Texas, for several years and had lived in Vicksburg since 1992. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Joanie Henson.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Murray Adams of Vicksburg; three sons, Gary Adams, Jackie Adams and Dale Adams, all of Vicksburg; two stepsons, Staff Sgt. Daniel Murray of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and David Murray of Vicksburg; two brothers, Bobby Joe Adams of Vicksburg and Wayne Darrell Adams of Houston, Texas; four sisters, Jean Furlong, Dena Thomas, Mary Lou Meeks and Ikey Rhodes, all of Houston; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie O’Quin officiating.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

SIDNEY BRANCH

Sidney Branch died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 67.

Mrs. Branch was a member of Travelers Rest M.B. Church. She retired as a food service worker from St. Francis Xavier Elementary and St. Aloysius High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Smith and Mary Rankin; her stepfather, Nathaniel Rankin; a sister, Augusta Ross; and a brother, Samuel Rankin.

Survivors include her husband, Melvin Branch of Vicksburg; four sons, Stanley Woods and William Branch, both of Vicksburg, Joseph Branch of Vicksburg and Charles Woods of Bloomington, Ill.; four daughters, Lila Branch, Delores Hubbard, Vickie Humphrey and Cheylene Woods, all of Vicksburg; a brother, Will T. Rankin of Vicksburg; seven sisters, Jeanetta M. Glory of Chicago, Mary Ford of Fayette, Josetta Wilson of Greenville and Helen Thomas, Martha Knight, Alice Hayes and Vivian Banks, all of Vicksburg; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

OTIS CROSS

EDWARDS Otis Cross died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 96.

Mr. Cross was a lifelong resident of Edwards. He was a deacon at Old Oak Ridge Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ida Bell Cross of Edwards; two sons, Ellis Cross of Edwards and James Cross of Compton, Calif.; three daughters, Emma Cross Beecham of Sacramento, Calif., Dr. Rosetta Cross Gladney of Jackson and Lorene Cross Tolliver of Edwards; his sister, Mamie Cross of Utica; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives including Rosie Mae Watkins of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Old Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at Henry Cemetery in Edwards.

Visitation will be from 1 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lakeover Funeral Home in Jackson and from noon until the service Thursday at the church.

JACQUELYN MARIE DONOVAN HOLLIS

TALLULAH Jacquelyn Marie Donovan Hollis died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Madison Parish Hospital in Tallulah. She was 87.

Born in Lake Providence, Mrs. Hollis was a graduate of St. Patrick’s Catholic School and the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She also attended the Jackson School of Cosmetology. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tallulah.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hollis; her parents; a sister, Heloise Smith-Acre; two brothers, Dr. E.R. Donovan and Dr. J.W. Donovan.

She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Donovan of Baytown, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Grace Donovan of Baytown and Lea Donovan of Vicksburg; and other relatives.
