BARBARA ANN BARNES

UNION CHURCH Barbara Ann Barnes died Monday, July 30, 2001, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fayette. She was 43.

Miss Barnes was born in Adams County and had lived in Union Church for a number of years. She attended Liddell Elementary School and graduated in 1975 from Jefferson County High School. She attended Alcorn State University, where she participated in the Upward Bound Program.

She had worked for Port Gibson Electric from 1985 until 1988 and had served as a Medicaid driver for the Mississippi Department of Human Services. She was employed at Tyson Foods in Jackson.

Miss Barnes was a member of Hickory Block United Methodist Church and had served as vice president of the Usher Board and as Sunday school treasurer. She also served with the youth program and was a member of United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Whitney Barnes Jr. and Sarah Brown Barnes, and her grandparents.

Survivors include two sons, Kenrick DeWayne Barnes and Dekota Barnes, both of Union Church; eight sisters, her twin Shelly Barnes Huston and Rosemary Wilson, both of Union Church, Christine Bingham and Cleo Barnes, both of Red Lick, Debra Stewart Curtis, Elizabeth Freeman and Linda Dee, all of Vicksburg, and Chris Hicks of Chicago; seven brothers, Luther Barnes and Wilbert Barnes, both of Houston, Texas, Samuel Stewart, Bobby Stewart, Leroy Stewart and Tommy Washington, all of Vicksburg, and Eddie Stewart of Kansas City, Mo.; five adopted sisters, Hazel Lowe, Mary Lee Lowe, Barbara Lowe, Rebecca Lowe and Nanette Lowe, all of Union Church; three adopted brothers, Willie Lowe Jr., Robert Lee Lowe and Kenneth Lowe, all of Union Church; three aunts; uncles; cousins, including Essie Mae O’Quinn of Union Church and George Winfield of Tucson, Ariz.; other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hickory Block United Methodist Church in Union Church with the Rev. Melvin White officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 today until the service at the church.

LAURA KATHERINE BOSTON

Laura Katherine Boston died Wednesday, August 1, 2001 at the ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 81.

Mrs. Boston was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She was a dietitian with the Kuhn Hospital and the owner and operator of the Ye Old Ice Cream parlor for over six years. She also helped her husband in the painting business and was a member of Bowmar Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Coleman Sam and Laura Ragland Ransome; her three husbands, Bill Reaves, Chester Boler, and David Boston; a son, Otto Reaves; and four brothers, Norman Ransome, William Ransome, Coleman Ransome, and Tinie Ransome.

She is survived by her six sons, Steven L. Boston, Mickey Reaves, and Bob Boler, all of Vicksburg, Jerry Reaves of New Orleans, Jimmy Reaves of Jacksonville, Fla., and David Belivins of Georgia; four daughters, Mary Golden and Nancy Boler, both of Kilgore, Texas, Gail Ransome of Covington, La., and Sue Ransome of Utah; grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

Services for Mrs. Boston will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Fisher-Riles Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mark Rowlen officiating.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Sunday until the hour of the service at the Chapel.

JOHN H. PAYNE

John H. Payne died Thursday, August 2, 2001, at his residence in Corinth. He was 86.

Mr. Payne was a retired Corinth Police Department captain with 20 years of service. He was a member of Gaines Chapel Methodist Church, a former scout master and a member of the Mississippi and Tennessee Law Enforcement Association. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and storytelling.

Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Willie Sue Payne; four brothers; and one sister.

He is survived by his wife, Clara Jobe Payne of Corinth; two sons, John H. Payne III of Vicksburg, and Terry Payne of Corinth; four grandchildren, Bill Payne of Cordova, Tenn., Dr. Lee Payne of Oxford, Jason Payne of Corinth, and Johnna Payne of Vicksburg; and two great grandchildren.

Services for Mr. Payne will be at 2 p.m. today at the McPeters Chapel in Corinth with the Rev. Dale Hathorn officiating. Burial will follow in Henry Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. today at McPeters Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Kermit Trulove, Scott Talley, Billy Tyson, Billy Ashcroft, Bill Payne, Dr. Lee Payne, and Jason Payne.
