BERTHA LEE CARSON
UTICA Services for Bertha Lee “Stute” Carson will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Belmont M.B. Church in Utica. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home.
Miss Carson died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 65.
Born in Hinds County, she was employed with the Jackson Hinds Comprehensive Health Center in Utica. She was a member of New Oak Ridge Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sharkey and Minnie Lee Carson; two sisters, Annie Mae Carson-Seaton and Ida Bell Carson.
She is survived by five sons, Jimmy Carson of Utica, Douglas Carson and Carl Carson, both of Vicksburg, and Larry Carson and Fulton Carson, both of Jackson; five daughters, Linda Carson of Jackson, Brenda Carson-Reed and Stephanie Carson-Huband, both of Vicksburg, Nicholle M. Carson and Kendra Carson-Flowers, both of Utica; three brothers, James W. “Porter” Carson, James C. “Doc Twin” Carson and Ozell Carson, all of Utica; seven sisters, Virlene Carson-Fisher, Josephine Carson-Richards and Barbara Carson-Lee, all of Utica, Lorraine Carson-Turner and Carrie Carson-Wilson, both of Chicago, Nettie Carson-Terry of Fort Worth, Texas, Arlene Burse of Vicksburg; grandchildren and other relatives.
ELIZABETH ETHRIDGE FLETCHER
GEORGETOWN, S.C. Elizabeth “Betty” Ethridge Fletcher died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. She was 71.
Mrs. Fletcher was born in Charleston, N.C., and lived in the Big Dam community before moving to Georgetown. She graduated from Winyah High School and worked at International Paper Company in Georgetown. She retired in 1992 from the Planning Department for the City of Vicksburg.
Mrs. Fletcher was a member of the Living With Cancer Support Group and Wayne United Methodist Church. She was a member and past Worthy Matron of Winyah Chapter No. 148 Order of the Eastern Star. She was past president of the Vicksburg Business & Professional Women’s Club and participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Fletcher of Georgetown; two daughters, Kathy Emerson of Vicksburg and Janet Blunt of Hampton, Va.; six sisters, Lou Ellen Wilson of Spartanburg, S.C., Shirley Taylor of Sumter, S.C., Anna Malone of Whitmire, S.C., Helen Reardon of New Zion, S.C., and Paulette McKenzie and Margaret Harrington, both of Kingstree, S.C.; seven brothers, Tommy Ethridge, Billy Ethridge and Roger Ethridge, all of Georgetown, Johnny Ethridge of Colorado Springs, Colo., Harry Ethridge of Newberry, S.C., and Bobby Reardon and Charles Reardon, both of New Zion; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wayne United Methodist Church in Georgetown with Dr. A. Stephen Holler officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the family residence in Georgetown.
Mayer Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

EVERETT C. GIBSON SR.
Everett C. Gibson Sr. died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at his home. He was 91.
A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Gibson was a retired assistant postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of First Baptist Church, serving in the Boaz Sunday school class and as an ordained deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Crawford Gibson of Vicksburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Everett C. Gibson Jr. and Ann Gibson of Vicksburg; two grandchildren, Tammy Case of Peach Tree City, Ga., and Tony Gibson of Leakesville, Miss.; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Jim Hess, Billy Brumfield and Eric Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Thursday until the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Arthur Lagg, Bryan Lagg, Rex Brown, Raymond Evans, David Upchurch and Sam Lusco.
Honorary pallbearers will be Faye Peters, George Cain, Dr. Daniel Edney, Dr. Murray Whitaker, Dr. Jimmy Vessell, Jack Tillotson, David Gibson and members of the Boaz Sunday school class.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Vicksburg or Hospice Ministries.
