Julia Mae Foster Hairston died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 64.

A nurse’s assistant, Mrs. Hairston was a member of Mount Givens M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Bingham; a son, Bruce Hairston; and her husband, William Hairston Sr.

She is survived by one son, William Hairston Jr. of Farmerdale, Va.; one daughter, Sharon Hairston of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; her mother, Flora Spates Reeves of Vicksburg; two sisters, Bertha Smalls of Edwards and Mattie Emerson of Mount Vernon; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Perry Young Sr. and Rosie Lee Johnson of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Zion Traveler’s M.B. Church on Poplar Street with the Rev. Carl Bolden officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

GEORGE ISOM PACE

FLORENCE George Isom Pace, formerly of Vicksburg, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at his home in Florence. He was 82.

Mr. Pace, a native of Arkansas, was a graduate of Hinds Community College and Mississippi College. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Fleet and at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack. He retired from the Mississippi Air National Guard.

He worked as a freelance artist and photographer and had been employed as an insurance salesman. He was a longtime resident of the Cleary community in Rankin County. A Mason, he was of the Methodist faith.

Mr. Pace was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin F. and Jessie Lou Pace, and a brother, John Pace.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise H. Pace of Florence; a daughter, Lana P. Childs of Vicksburg; a son, George S. “Jack” Pace of Vicksburg; two grandchildren, Cydney W. Sherman of Vicksburg and Frank M. Childs Jr. of Byram; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Florence Cemetery in Rankin County under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home of Brandon.

SIDNEY P. SAUCIER

GRANT, Ala. Sidney P. Saucier died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, in Grant. He was 65.

Mr. Saucier received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Mississippi State University. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

He served as associate director of NASA’s George C. Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. He also served as a consultant and adviser on programming and business of project management.

In 1972, he began a four-year term on the City Council of Huntsville. He was past chairman of the Board of Directors of the Huntsville-Madison County Airport Authority. He served on the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Board of Directors and the North Alabama Science Center Board of Directors. He was past president of the Huntsville Jaycees and national director of the Alabama Jaycees.

Mr. Saucier is survived by his wife, Gloria J. Carr of Grant; two daughters, Ann Marie Bond of Alabaster, Ala., and Dawn Gothberg of Huntington Beach, Calif.; one son, Jay Saucier of Huntsville; his mother, Ophelia Saucier of Vicksburg; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Huntsville.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Laughlin Funeral Home.
