Karen Lynn Allen Palmerton died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at her home. She was 58.

Born in Hale, Mo., Mrs. Palmerton was reared in St. Louis County, Mo. She graduated from Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Mo., and attended Southwest Missouri State in Springfield. She moved to Vicksburg in 1967. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was employed as church secretary for the past 15 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Milburn and Julia Allen; and a sister, Rita Brandon.

Survivors include her husband, John B. Palmerton of Vicksburg; her son, John A. Palmerton of Ellisville; two daughters, Diana Howell and Lesley Dill, both of Jackson; two brothers, David Allen of Plymouth, Minn., and Paul Allen of Hamilton, Ill.; her sister, Mary Kay Lewis of Brazil, Ind.; and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Thomas and Dr. John G. McCall officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Larry Daggett, Wayne Dill, John Howell, Ed Perry, Calvin Pugh, Jerry Rankin, Buck Taylor and Ben Turnage.

Memorials may be made to the Mississippi Baptist Childrens Village or to the March of Dimes.

RUFUS PRICE

Rufus Price died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, in Vicksburg. He was 94.

Mr. Price was retired and was a member of St. Luke Church of God in Christ. He was a member of St. Paul King Hiram Grand Lodge AF&AM and the NAACP.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Baker Price; his parents, Robert Price and Susie Ramsey; and a sister, Mary Lawton.

Survivors include three sons, James Price and Sam Price, both of Hutchinson, Kan., and LeBaker Price of Columbus, Ga.; a stepson, Caleb Wilson of Columbus; three daughters, Mary Taylor of Detroit and Betty Price Jones and Mary Ann Price, both of Vicksburg; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives, including members of the Price, Tucker and Ramsey families of Yazoo City.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Casey Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

ESTELLA WAITS

Estella Waits died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 87.

Mrs. Waits was born in Wintersville, Miss. A retired licensed practical nurse, she was a member of New Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church. She was past president of the Senior Usher Board and a Sunday school teacher. She was past worthy matron of ADA Chapter No. 1 Order of Eastern Star.

She was a member of Israel Court No. 9, Heroines of Jericho, Rose of Sharon Court No. 2 Daughters of Sphinks; Faith Encampment of the Ladies of Knights; and Pearly Gate Tabernacle No. 203 of Knights and Daughters.

Mrs. Waits was preceded in death by her husband, Columbus Waits; her parents, Horace and Winnie Prophet; and two sisters, Mary Richardson and Ferry Lee Johnson.

She is survived by one daughter, Charlene Simmons of Vicksburg; a brother, the Rev. Elroy Day of Buffalo, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

MARY WILLIAMS

Services for Mary Williams will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Willie Gross officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Williams died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at her home. She was 48.

Mrs. Williams was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She is survived by her husband, John Williams of Vicksburg; two sons, Charles Mitchell and Ledale Williams, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Denise Williams of Vicksburg and Yolanda Kimber of Milwaukee, Wis.; five brothers, Willie Rankin, Frank Rankin, Jessie Rankin, Robert Wyatt and Louis Bailey, all of Vicksburg; five sisters, Peggy Nabors, Canary Rankin, Judy Rankin, Thelma Rankin and Rosie Wyatt, all of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins and other relatives.
