Three straight HRs boost WC at Yazoo City

[08/15/01] Warren Central hit three straight home runs to start a seven-run sixth inning and bury Yazoo City, 14-5, on Tuesday.

Winning pitcher Marilyn Landers started the assault with her second homer of the day, followed by Ashley Chaney and Anna Mitchell, who helped WC break open a 6-3 lead.

The Lady Vikes (4-0) had 14 hits to Yazoo’s eight in a game that was scoreless until the fourth inning.

“We were hitting the ball well, just straight to people,” said WC coach Lucy Young, who recorded her 300th slow-pitch victory Saturday against archrival Vicksburg.

Lyn Strawn went 2-for-4 with three RBIs while Katie Barnett, Shemika Carson and Chaney allso had two hits apiece.

The Lady Vikes committed four errors to Yazoo City’s eight. Yazoo City scored all five of its runs in the final two innings.

WC hosts Greenville Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
