Lady Vikes blast Greenville, 9-3

[08/17/01] Marilyn Landers had a home run and a double to lead Warren Central to a 9-3 win over Greenville on Thursday.

Landers had two RBIs and pitched the win as the Lady Vikes improved to 5-0.

Katie Barnett had two RBIs and Lyn Strawn tripled for WC, which scored three in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead and tacked on four more in the fifth.

WC, which will be at Northwest Rankin on Tuesday, outhit Greenville, 7-4.

“They played good defense,” WC coach Lucy Young said.

Lawrence County 6, VHS 5

Brandi Parker and LaToya Trunell cranked out three hits apiece as Vicksburg High had a strong showing against Lawrence County.

“We played a heck of a ballgame,” first-year VHS coach Jennifer Wilkerson said, noting that Lawrence county had 30 players to VHS’ 17.

“I saw some errors, but the things I saw that we did wrong are things we can improve on.”

Kelsey Hudson, Lauren Johnson, Katie Jenkins and Kelli Outz all had two hits for VHS, which led 4-1 after four innings.

The Missy Gators (2-2) will be at Madison Central Tuesday.
