AMELIA SCHULER COLEMAN
Amelia Schuler Coleman died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at her home. She was 66.
Mrs. Coleman was a homemaker and a member of New Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lacey Coleman Sr.; her parents, William and Eddie Johnson Schuler; and two sisters, Gracie Evans and Marcella Walton.
Mrs. Coleman is survived by two sons, Lacey Coleman Jr. of Norfolk, Va., and Stacey Coleman of Vicksburg; two daughters, Eva Griffin of Vicksburg and Marcella Odom of Georgia; four sisters, Jessie Mae Young and Virginia Stovall, both of Baton Rouge; Mytris Frazier of Jackson and Susie B. Cox of Natchez; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
ROBERT CUNNINGHAM SR.
Robert “Bob” Cunningham Sr. died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson. He was 71.
Mr. Cunningham was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and was employed at LeTourneau as a paint foreman for 36 years.
He was the owner of Vicksburg Tae Kwon Do-Hapikdo for three years and taught martial arts at All Saints’ Episcopal School, Port Gibson Fitness Center.
Mr. Cunningham was also a member of the Magnolia Hunting Club and the Old Stagg Hunting Club.
He is survived by his wife, Ann J. Cunningham of Vicksburg; a son, Robert Cunningham Jr. of Tallulah; a daughter, Mary Jane Spivey of Vicksburg; two brothers, Charles “Sonny” Cunningham of Antioch, Tenn., and Joe Cunningham of Vicksburg; three sisters, Marie G. Wheelock of Vicksburg, Sue Edward of Pearl and Sally Graham of Vicksburg; five grandchildren, Robert Cunningham III, Butchie Spivey, Morgan Spivey, Angel Spivey and Meshell Spivey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home Chapel with Brothers Scott Wilson and Jody Farrell officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 3 to 5 p.m. at Fisher-Riles.
Pallbearers will be John Sessums, Doug Davison, William Walker, Raymon Cannon, Ellen McElroy and Paul Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers are Sonny Felker, George Callen, Roy Ross, Billy Ewell and all martial arts students.
EVELYN L. LAUGHLIN
Evelyn L. Laughlin died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 86.
Mrs. Laughlin was born in Lumberton and had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1944.
She was a graduate of Lumberton High School and attended Pearl River Junior College. She was employed with Home Finance Company before retiring in 1974.
Mrs. Laughlin was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, the Aldergate Sunday School class and the United Methodist Women. She was a charter member and past president of Floral Garden and a life member of the Garden Clubs of Mississippi.
Mrs. Laughlin was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie R. Laughlin and her parents, John Frederick and Mabel McCray Lenoir.
She is survived by a son, John R. Laughlin III of Jackson; a grandson, John R. Laughlin IV of Jackson; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Laughlin, Mary Laughlin and Susan Laughlin, all of Jackson; a niece, Sandra Lenoir Shackelford of Florida; and three nephews, Ricky Lenoir of Purvis, Harold Hill of Baton Rouge and Joe F. Lenoir of Brandon.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner, pastor of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Pallbearers will be John R. Laughlin IV, Burton Boyd, Bill Curtis, Glenn Pickering and Hugh Green.
Memorials may be made to the Crawford Street United Methodist Church Building Fund at 1408 Crawford St.
HERBERT ANTHONY SMITH
Herbert Anthony Smith died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001. He was 43.
Mr. Smith was a native of Battle Creek, Mich., and had lived in Yokena for the past three years.
He was employed by Foam Packaging and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Smith is survived by three sons, Jhal Devonn Smith, Herbert Anthony Middleton and Robert Michael Middleton, all of Vicksburg; three sisters, Brenda Smith Riddle, Belinda Smith and Jacquelynn Smith, all of Battle Creek; the mother of his children, Greta Middleton; three grandchildren; nieces; nephews and other relatives; and friends including Ben Middleton and Lois Anderson.
