JOSEPH HARTZOG
Joseph “Joe” Hartzog died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001. He was 56.
Born in Geneva County, Ala., Mr. Hartzog had lived in Vicksburg for 25 years. He was retired from the Army and the National Guard. He was employed by Waring Oil Company as a service supervisor. He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hartzog.
Survivors include two daughters, Margie Hartzog Bunn of Mount Vernon, Ind., and Joann Hartzog Stewart of Headland, Ala.; his brother, James Hartzog of Dothan, Ala.; his sister, Juanita Sasnett of Monroe, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. E.L. Sharp officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the service Friday at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Waring Oil Company, employees of Neill Gas Company, 475th Military Attachment and the 168th Engineering Group.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
MARGARET LOUISE KNIGHT
UTICA Margaret Louise Knight died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at her home in Utica. She was 63.
Mrs. Knight was a native of Hattiesburg and had lived in Utica for six years. She was a member of 38th Avenue Baptist Church in Hattiesburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Lee; her father, Henry Joe Byrd; her daughter, Sherri Gill; a brother, Edward Joe Byrd.
Survivors include her husband, Douglas Knight of Utica; her son, Michael L. Morgan of Purvis; two daughters, Donna Morgan Hull of Woodstock, Ga., and Karen Morgan Douglas of Maryville, Tenn.; her stepson, Douglas E. Knight III of Bay St. Louis; her mother, Stella Byrd of Hattiesburg; a sister, Gloria Petruit of Sulphur, La.; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica. Burial will follow at Cayuga Cemetery
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Howard Lambert, Jimmy Sullivan, Bobby Walters, Henry Herren, Dutch Knight and Robert Petruit.
HERBERT ANTHONY SMITH
Services for Herbert Anthony Smith will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Highland Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry White officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be today at Robbins Funeral Home and from noon until the service Thursday at the church.
Mr. Smith died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001. He was 43.
A native of Battle Creek, Mich., he had lived in the Yokena community for the past three years. He was employed by Foam Packaging and a member of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by three sons, Jhal Devonn Smith, Herbert Anthony Middleton and Robert Michael Middleton, all of Vicksburg; four sisters, Brenda Smith Riddle, Belinda Smith, Jacquelynn Smith and Mary Mitchell, all of Battle Creek; his brother, Jerry Riley of Battle Creek; three grandchildren and other relatives and friends, including Greta Middleton, Ben Middleton and Lois Anderson.
