Warren Central managed just three hits in its first loss of the season, a 10-0 drubbing at Northwest Rankin.

“To have a lineup like ours and get only three hits is totally unacceptable,” WC coach Lucy Young said. “We’re going to have to get back to basics today (in practice).”

The Lady Cougars (5-0), ranked No. 10 in The Clarion-Ledger, cranked out nine hits in the five-inning game. The Lady Vikes (5-1) also helped the home team with five “extremely costly” errors, Young said.

“We didn’t have any success with our bats and we didn’t do any better with our gloves,” Young said. “We’ve got to learn from our mistakes.”

WC will host Madison Central at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Shannon Arnold had a triple for Vicksburg (2-3), but Madison Central (2-5) took advantage of several Missy Gator errors in a six-run second inning and rolled to the win.

“We just made some errors and it cost us. We’re going to come back and work hard … ,” VHS coach Jennifer Wilkerson said.
