JOE CURTIS BROWN

Joe Curtis Brown died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 46.

Mr. Brown was a member of Travelers Rest M.B. Church and was employed with Good Shepherd Community Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Brown Sr. and Dora Brown; a brother, Norman Brown Jr.; and his stepfather, Willie Bass.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Winters Brown of Vicksburg; four sons, Christopher Dixon, Charles Mitchell, Joseph Brown and Lemont Clark, all of Vicksburg; five daughters, LaFreda Kaiser of Chicago and Dora Brown, Keisha Brown, Kimberly Jenkins and Cassandra Clark, all of Vicksburg; three brothers, Wesley Curtis Brown, Willie Williams and John Henry Williams, all of Vicksburg; four sisters, Bobbie Stampley, Johnnie Brown, Juanita Early and Elouise Craig, all of Vicksburg; 10 grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends, including Oliver James Clark of Vicksburg.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

CORRIE AMELIA BRASSFIELD FINDLEY

Corrie Amelia Brassfield Findley died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, in Harrison, Ark. She was 78.

Mrs. Findley was born in Hollandale and reared in Vicksburg. She was a retired homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Edna Estelle Brassfield.

Survivors include her husband, Howard B. Findley; a daughter, Bea “Sami” Breckenridge of Jackson; a son, Holley Findley of Clinton; one sister, Frances Turner of Redwood; three brothers, Charles Brassfield and Earl Brassfield, both of Vicksburg, and Edgar Brassfield of Brandon; and three grandchildren.

Services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial followed at Lakewood Memorial Park.

RUTH MONTGOMERY

PORT GIBSON Ruth Montgomery died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at Claiborne County Hospital. She was 77.

Mrs. Montgomery was a member of Second Baptist Church in Port Gibson.

She is survived by two sons, Sidney Montgomery of Port Gibson and Louis Montgomery of Los Angeles; four daughters, Dorothy Christian, Claudia Wilson, Tuquilla Brown and Erica Brown, all of Port Gibson; two brothers, Boston Burton and Wylie Burton, both of Port Gibson; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Scott’s Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson.

HENRY SIMMONS JR.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. Henry “Sonny” Simmons Jr. died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at his home in Champaign. He was 48.

Born in Chicago to Henry Simmons Sr. and Harriet Kelly, Mr. Simmons attended Kennedy-King College on a wrestling scholarship and Roosevelt University. He was a foreman at Clark Oil Refinery in Blue Island, Ill.

He attended Central Illinois Mosque in Urbana.

He is survived by two daughters, Heather Keys of Chicago and Kiara Kaaron Simmons of Doraville, Ga.; two sisters, Margo Simmons of Urbana and Greta Simmons of Chicago; two brothers, Shawn Simmons of Robbins, Ill., and Stacy Simmons of Los Angeles; and one granddaughter.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Ashland Cemetery in Port Gibson under the direction of Owens Funeral Home of Champaign.
