ALYNE CARRAWAY

UTICA Alyne Carraway died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at St. Dominic Health Services in Jackson. She was 84.

Born in Copiah County, Mrs. Carraway had lived in Utica most of her life. She was a homemaker and member of Utica Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theron Carraway.

Survivors include one son, Bill Carraway of Utica; one daughter, Polly Carraway of Utica; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Utica Christian Church with the Revs. Nick Smith and Richie Stonecypher officiating. Burial will follow at Utica Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica.

Pallbearers will be Lee Conerly, Ken Alexander, Mike Rollison, Mark Anderson, Jimmy Daniels and Wesley Dip.

JOHN BILL COLLINS

John Bill Collins died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at his home. He was 87.

A retired cement finisher, Mr. Collins was a member and deacon at Porters Chapel M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie and Johnnie Collins; his wife, Annie Lee Collins; five sisters; and four brothers.

He is survived by one daughter, Mary “Doll” Collins Brown; two grandchildren, Timothy E. Brown and Cassandra R. Williams; five great-grandchildren, Kandace M. Brown of Corpus Christi, Texas, Tobias D. Brown of Port Gibson and Ruben K. Williams, Johnathon B. Williams and Brandon R. Williams, all of Vicksburg; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends, including Juanita Jones.

MARY LEE MARLEY DILLARD

Mary Lee Marley Dillard died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 73.

Mrs. Dillard was retired. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James S. Dillard; a brother, Arthur Marley; a sister, Virgie Havard; and her parents, Matthew and Grace Jones Marley.

She is survived by an adopted son, Carlos Desmond of Vicksburg; a daughter, Annie Marie Lee of Vicksburg; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

KARL A. GRIFFIN

Karl A. Griffin died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 43.

Mr. Griffin was a 1976 graduate of Vicksburg High School. He received his bachelor of arts degree and his master of science degree in language arts from Jackson State University.

He was employed by the City of Atlanta, where he was a member of Faith Christian Center.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandfather.

Survivors include one son, Kesniel Rashaada Griffin of Jackson; his mother, Erma T. Griffin of Vicksburg; his father, Amos Griffin Jr. of Vicksburg; a brother, Thomas W. Griffin of Louisiana; his maternal grandmother, Bessie B. Thomas of Jackson; aunts; uncles; and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home with the Rev. R.L. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

PAULINE KRIVCHER SHELLER

Services for Pauline Krivcher Sheller were at 11 a.m. today at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Marr officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Mrs. Sheller died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at her daughter’s home in Vicksburg. She was 84.

Mrs. Sheller was a native of Memphis and moved to Vicksburg in 1941, where she retired as a nurse’s aide. She attended Trinity Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hyman and Lula Krivcher.

She is survived by a son, Joseph Hyman Sheller of Marion, Ark.; three daughters, Beth Wooten of Roanoke, Va., Becky Cannon and Linda Dubuisson, both of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Wayne Wooten, Jamie Sheller, Arthur Luttig, Tom Jones, Timmy Lampkin, Chad Tanner and Justin Jones.

SUSAN KIRTLEY SIMMERS

HARRISONBURG, Va. Susan Kirtley Simmers died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at her home in Harrisonburg. She was 30.

Miss Simmers was born in Carbondale, Ill., and spent most of her life in Vicksburg. She had been a Harrisonburg resident for six years.

She attended Tulane University and James Madison University.

She is survived by her parents, Dr. John W. and Florence Phillips Simmers of Vicksburg.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with the Rev. Glen Langston officiating. A private burial will follow.

Visitation will follow the service at the funeral home.

MARY ELIZABETH SMITH

Mary Elizabeth Smith died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 83.

Mrs. Smith lived in Vicksburg most of her life and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by three sons, James Harvey Smith of Utica and Ernest Albert Smith and Billy Wayne Smith, both of Vicksburg; six daughters, Mary Jo Martin, Carol Jean Tedder and Geraldine Tedder, all of Vicksburg, Ann Oakes of Redwood, Patricia Wamble of West Monroe, La. and Frances Childers of Shreveport, La.; a niece; two sisters-in-law; 26 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Sam Dunaway and Kuhrman K. Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until the time of service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Larry Bufkin, David Goodin, James Tedder, Robert Martin, Albert Smith Jr. and Charlie Tedder.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Smith’s grandchildren.
