ANDREW JACKSON BROWN

Services for Andrew Jackson “A.J.” Brown will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Zion Travelers M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Service.

Mr. Brown died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 57.

Mr. Brown was employed with U.S. Rubber.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Anglee Brown, and a son, Patrick Andrew Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Hattie Brooks Brown of Vicksburg; two daughters, Pamela Marie Brown and Cynthia Renee Brown, both of Vicksburg; a brother, Roosevelt Darden of Vicksburg; two grandsons, DeMarcus Eric West and D’Angelo Field, both of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including the Dotson and Turner families of Vicksburg.

JOSEPH A. CARROLL

Joseph A. “Joey” Carroll died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at his home in Raymond. He was 22.

A Vicksburg native, Mr. Carroll was a graduate of Warren Central High School and was a student at Hinds Community College. He had lived in Raymond for the past year.

A hunter and fisherman, he assisted with the Boy Scouts. He attended Raymond Road Baptist Church and Woodlawn Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Carroll.

Survivors include his parents, J.W. and Elaine Carroll of Raymond; his maternal grandmother, Edna Sanders of Vicksburg; his paternal grandmother, Betty Carroll of Vicksburg; aunts; uncles; and other relatives, including Joe and Jean Agustin of Gulfport.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Revs. Robert Walker and Joe Trahan officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Chip Denman, Neal Fowler, Trae Wells, Jeremy Martin, Shaun Gordon and Ron Ott.

Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Martin, Henry Wells and Art Drott.

JOHN BILL COLLINS

Services for John Bill Collins will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Porters Chapel M.B. Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Service.

Mr. Collins died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at his home. He was 87.

A retired cement finisher, Mr. Collins was a member and deacon at Porters Chapel M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie and Johnnie Collins; his wife, Annie Lee Collins; five sisters; and four brothers.

He is survived by one daughter, Mary “Doll” Collins Brown; two grandchildren, Timothy E. Brown and Cassandra R. Williams; five great-grandchildren, Kandace M. Brown of Corpus Christi, Texas, Tobias D. Brown of Port Gibson and Ruben K. Williams, Johnathon B. Williams and Brandon R. Williams, all of Vicksburg; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends, including Juanita Jones.

LEE ROY HOBSON

LEXINGTON Lee Roy Hobson died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at his home in Lexington, Miss. He was 53.

Mr. Hobson was an employee with Cappaert Manufactured Housing in Vicksburg and a member of Hebron Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Hobson, and a daughter, Carrie Hobson.

He is survived by his wife, Joan S. Hobson of Lexington; a son, Matthew S. Hobson of Lexington; a daughter, Laura H. Johnson of Lexington; his mother, Lois Hobson Weems of Lexington; a brother, Jerry Hobson of Lexington; and a sister, Joyce Hobson of Lexington.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington with the Revs. Joel Smith and David Steveline officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jon Harris Ables, Miles Heard, Billy Hathcock, Rodney Bruce, Robbie Winstead and Austin Edwards.

SYLVIA TANNER JACKSON

SAGINAW, Mich. Sylvia Tanner Jackson died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Luther Manor Nursing Home in Saginaw. She was 83.

Born in Bovina, Mrs. Jackson lived most of her life in Vicksburg. She was a member of Rock of Ages M.B. Church before moving to Saginaw.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Easter Wiggins; her mother, Dora Tanner; her father, Ezekiel Tanner; two sisters, Josie Tanner and Gertrude Smith; a son, Robert Tanner; and her husband, Alonzo Jackson.

She is survived by two sons, Archie Tanner and James Jackson; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; cousins, including Mr. and Mrs. George Wilson and Shirley Peaches; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends, including Fannie Johnson and Luella Williams.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Renaissance Baptist Church in Saginaw with the Rev. Nathaniel Calhoun Sr. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 until 8 tonight at Browne’s Mortuary in Saginaw.
