WOODROW HUNTER
Services for Woodrow Hunter will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Service with the Rev. Isaac Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Hunter died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was 73.
Mr. Hunter was a former employee of P.P. Williams and Bluff Janitorial Service. He served in the Army in World War II and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Hunter; a son, McArthur Hunter; two brothers, Kevin Hunter and Frank R. Hunter; four sisters, Addie Tarvin, Lucy Smith, Georgia Henderson and Robbie Hunter; and his parents, Roman and Lucy Harris Hunter.
Survivors include four sons, Willie James Hunter, Glen Hunter and Emmitt Dean Hunter, all of Vicksburg, and Charles Edward Hunter of Seaside, Calif.; three daughters, Ernestine Hunter Williams, Patricia Hunter Brown and Ethel Hunter, all of Vicksburg; two stepdaughters, Deloris Lacey and Diane Green, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, Hoover Hunter of Jackson and Harding Hunter of Chicago; one sister, Margaret Moore of Jackson; 30 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends, including Susie Lacey of Vicksburg and Viola Hunter and Margaret Hunter, both of Seaside.
GILLIS WADE McMAHON
Gillis Wade McMahon died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 40.
Mr. McMahon was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was a graduate of Warren Central High School, class of 1979. Mr. McMahon was employed as an electrician for Pan America Electrical Co. for a year-and-a-half. He had previously worked at Tara Wildlife and the Dollar Tree.
Mr. McMahon was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Sam and Mary I. Landers; and his paternal grandparents, C.O. and Lillie McMahon.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn McMahon of Vicksburg; his three sons, Christopher McMahon, Cody McMahon and Harry McLaughlin, all of Vicksburg; his parents, Gillis C. McMahon and Mary L. McMahon of Vicksburg; two sisters, Shirley E. Love of Vicksburg and Jewel D. Dougherty of Utica; and other relatives.
Services for Mr. McMahon will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wayside Baptist Church with the Revs. Larry Haggard and Tony Monk officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Wayside Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Chad Dougherty, Sammy Landers, Bob Harris, Ronnie Deckleman, Rusty Dougherty, Claude Vinson, John T. McMahon and Roger Holdiness.
Honorary pallbearers will be the electricians of Pan American Electrical Co.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 3 Forest Hill Circle, Vicksburg, MS 39180.
Fisher-Riles Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
LOVIES DUNCAN PIERCE
INGLEWOOD, Calif. Lovies Duncan Pierce died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at her home in Inglewood. She was 95.
A Vicksburg native, Mrs. Pierce was a member of Bible Christian Assembly.
She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Jimmy “Buddy” Duncan.
She is survived by a son, Joseph Marshall Sr. of California; two sisters, Carolyn Evans and Estelle Warfield, both of Vicksburg; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Lee and Jackie Griffin of Vicksburg.
Burial will be Saturday in Inglewood.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
