[9/13/2001]It took more than two weeks and a big rally at the end, but Porters Chapel Academy finally got back to .500 on Wednesday.

The Lady Eagles (3-3) rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Manchester, 9-8, in the completion of a suspended game from Aug. 27 at the Culkin Complex.

Courtney Angel’s bases-loaded, infield single with two outs scored Laura Hall with the winning run.

“I really didn’t expect us to be .500 at this point or at the end of the year or anytime. I would’ve been happy to win two games,” said PCA coach Liz Gullett, whose team is playing its first season of fast-pitch softball.

Back on Aug. 27, Manchester (2-6) held a 7-5 lead in the top of the fifth inning when rain came. Since it wasn’t an official game yet, umpires suspended it rather than calling it, and the decision benefited PCA.

The Lady Eagles scored one run in the bottom of the fifth on Wednesday to cut it to 7-6. After Manchester scored a run in the top of the sixth, the Lady Eagles rallied in the seventh to win it.

Amy Rutledge had an RBI single in the inning before the Manchester shortstop fell down while trying to field Angel’s grounder, allowing Hall to score.

“With us being at the top of our lineup, I really felt like we could get the hit we needed,” Gullett said.

Angel finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs, Ashley Brown went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs, and Lindsey McCool scored two runs for the Lady Eagles, who host Riverfield in a doubleheader Tuesday at 5 p.m.

PCA was winning a B-team game, 7-2, when rain ended it.
