PEARL L. HOGAN

Services for Pearl L. Hogan will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Edley officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hogan died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 74.

A homemaker, Mrs. Hogan was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Hogan; a son, Benjamin Parson; a daughter, Barbara Jean Parson; two brothers, Ervin Johnson and Willie Johnson Jr.; three sisters, Helen Gardner, Laura Dale Andrews and Flora Green; and her parents, Willie Johnson Sr. and Laura Johnson.

She is survived by three sons, John L. Parson Jr. and Willie Parson, both of Vicksburg, and George Parson of Detroit; four daughters, Annie Mae Wilson, Dorothy Stewart and Frances Parson, all of Vicksburg, and Carolyn Parson of Rolling Fork; five brothers, Freddie Johnson, J.D. Johnson, Oscar Walker and Randolph Johnson, all of Monroe, La., and Edward Johnson of Chicago; one sister, Dorothy Washington of Monroe; 26 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and other relatives, including members of the Hogan, Atkins, Parson, Smith and Brown families.

JAMES GRAY COLLINS

ROLLING FORK James G. “Mike” Collins died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 73.

Mr. Collins was born in Pine Bluff, Ark. He was a member of the Athletic Officials Association basketball and baseball. He was an Eagle Scout and a Mason.

During the 1950s, he served in the Army Reserve and was the assistant fire chief of the first volunteer fire department in Rolling Fork. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Sharkey-Issaquena Academy and was employed for 46 years as a Gulf Oil distributor and a BP Jobber. He was a member of the Mississippi Petroleum Association, the National Petroleum Association, GOMA and BPMO.

He was also a lifetime deacon and member of the First Baptist Church of Rolling Fork.

Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Jefferson and Opal Johnson Collins.

He is survived by his wife, Polly D. Collins of Rolling Fork; two daughters, Sharon Elizabeth Bass of Rolling Fork and Kaye Stuart of Brandon; his twin brother, Don Haskell “Ike” Collins Sr. of Anguilla; two sisters, Martha Collins Hiter of Merigold and Janice Collins Wyatt of Cleveland, Miss.; four grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Rolling Fork with the Revs. R.E. Kyzar and Millard Caulder officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:30 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Pallbearers will be J.R. Carter, L.W. Carter, Jimmy Walker, Clifton Porter, David Daniel, Donnie Collins, John Bass and Morris Stuart.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Harrison, Dr. Danny Jackson, Tony Maxey, Tony McIntyre, Lee Martin, Ike Presley, Joe Hicks, Thomas Scott and Robert Barfield.
