RICHARD DEAN GOODWIN SR.

NEWELLTON Richard Dean Goodwin Sr. died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, in Winnsboro, La. He was 58.

Born in Newellton, Mr. Goodwin was a retired surveyor. He was a former Mason and member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Newellton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Maggie Goodwin; and two brothers, Louis James Goodwin and R.J. Goodwin.

He is survived by a son, Richard Dean Goodwin Jr. of Winnsboro; a daughter, Tammy G. Bailey of Winnsboro; one sister, Maybelle B. Cardine of Newellton; four brothers, Charles Goodwin of Tullos and Robert Goodwin, Harvey E. Goodwin and David L. Goodwin, all of Newellton; two stepchildren, Roy Albert and Jackie Albert; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First United Pentecostal Church in Newellton with the Revs. David McKeithen and Virgil Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton.

Pallbearers will be James Bamburg, Calvin Gatlin, Charles

Wayne Goodwin, David Joel Goodwin, Glen Goodwin, Kenny Goodwin and Robert Slaughter.

Memorials may be made to the First United Pentecostal Church of Newellton Building Fund.

GAYLE MORTON GRANTHAM

GULFPORT Gayle Morton Grantham died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001 in Gulfport, Miss. She was 54.

Mrs. Grantham was a native of Gulfport and attended Gulfport schools. She worked as a medical secretary. She was a longtime employee of the Gulf Coast Orthopedic Clinic.

Mrs. Grantham was preceded in death by her parents, Bob Morton and Johnnie Mae Morton.

She is survived by a daughter, Michelle Grantham of Gulfport; a sister, Jan Huey of Gulfport; a nephew, John Huey of Gulfport; an adopted sister, Dr. Cynthia Chatham of Long Beach; an aunt and uncle, Louise and Bill Larson of Vicksburg; and two cousins, Don Larson of Renton, Wash., and Johnny Larson of Columbus.

Services were this morning at Riemann Funeral Home in Gulfport.

RAY HOOKS

FLORENCE Ray Hooks died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at his home in Florence. He was 56.

A native of Pascagoula, Mr. Hooks moved to the Florence area 25 years ago. He worked as a shop foreman for Waste Management. He was a hunter and fisherman and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Hooks of Florence; two daughters, Debra Sasser and Teresa Wilson, both of Florence; one son, Randy Hooks of Florence; three sisters, Faye Hearn and Barbara Hearn, both of Vicksburg, and Glenda Davis of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two brothers, Doug Hooks of Vicksburg and Gary Hooks of Raymond; and two grandsons, Brandon Sasser and Shelby Sasser.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Burial will follow at Mount Creek Cemetery in Florence.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

JESSIE BEATON THOMAS

EDWARDS Jessie Beaton Thomas died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at a hospital in Flint, Mich. She was 80.

Mrs. Thomas was born in Hinds County but had lived in Edwards for many years. She was retired from Anderson-Tully. She was a member of Spring Ridge Baptist Church in Edwards.

Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents, Ella and John Henry Thomas; a son, Ethel James Thomas; three sisters, Laurie Thomas, Coretta Thomas and Vantee Singleton; and eight brothers, Richard Thomas, Clifford Thomas, John Henry Thomas, Allen Thomas, Lewis Thomas, George “Bo” Thomas, Bennie Thomas and McKinley Thomas.

She is survived by a daughter, Ernestine Barker of Flint, Mich.; a son, Ellis Irvin Thomas of Edwards; three sisters, Kayretha Smith of Learned and Virginia Bradley and Ruth Dolores Roby, both of Vicksburg; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Lakeover Funeral Home in Jackson has charge of the arrangements.

ALLENE McCULLEY WILLIAMS

Allene McCulley Williams died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 78.

Mrs. Williams was born in McComb and had lived in Vicksburg since 1953. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include her husband, George B. Williams of Vicksburg; three sons, Benton Williams of Vicksburg, Jesse Williams of McComb and James Williams of Huntington, Texas; one sister, Jessie Mae Payne of McComb; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Thursday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren.
