NANCY MARY BOWEN FAIR

Nancy Mary Bowen Fair died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 80.

Born in New Orleans, Mrs. Fair was the daughter of the late Susie Mary Mackey Brown of Vicksburg and the late Gwynn Garland Bowen of Jackson. She attended Sophie B. Wright High School and Southern Business College.

She and her husband, Mark Lee Fair of Miami, moved to Sommerville, Tenn., where they owned and operated the Fair Movie Theatre. They later moved to Memphis.

After her husband’s death, Mrs. Fair worked for 20 years at Southern Bowling Lanes in Crosstown. She was involved in a number of women’s groups and charities.

Mrs. Fair moved to Vicksburg in 1960.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Lee Fair; a daughter, Ann Celine Harrison; and an aunt, Emma Mackey Schlottman.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Dorothy Harrison of New Orleans; eight grandchildren, John Harrison and Paul Harrison, both of Jackson, Andrew Harrison and Mark Harrison, both of Vicksburg, Nancy Jones of Bolton, David Harrison of Lobutcher, Allie Barr of Glen Allan and Mary Ann Guimbellot of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; 24 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal, with the Rev. Michael Nation officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon Friday until the service at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

ELSIE LOWRY JACKSON

GLOSTER Elsie Lowry Jackson died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at her home in Gloster. She was 93.

Born in Pontotoc, Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker. She was a member of Galilee First Baptist Church in Gloster.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Worth Jackson.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susanne and Gerald Braddock of Vicksburg; two grandchildren, Schuyler Braddock Oaks of Vicksburg and Tal Braddock of Ridgeland; and two great-grandchildren, Braddock Oaks and Jackson Oaks.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster with the Revs. Steve Bryant and Sammy Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Roseland Cemetery in Gloster.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Friday until the service at the funeral home.

ROSIE LEE McARTHUR

CLEVELAND, Ohio Rosie Lee McArthur died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was 89.

Mrs. McArthur was a resident of Vicksburg before moving to Ohio two years ago. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry McArthur; her parents, Simuel and Elsie Williams; five brothers, Sidney Williams, Simuel Williams, Theo Williams, James Williams and George Williams; and one sister, Elsie Williams.

She is survived by a daughter, Georgia Clark of Cleveland; a son, Douglas McArthur of Charleston, S.C.; three sisters, Mary Winger of Jackson and Elizabeth Williams and Sarah Allen, both of Vicksburg; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Services for Mrs. McArthur will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Nesbitt-Gibbs Mortuary in Cleveland. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be at noon Friday at the funeral home.

W.E. McBROOM JR.

W.E. “Earl” McBroom Jr. died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at the

Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson. He was 75.

Mr. McBroom was a native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Marines. Mr. McBroom served on numerous public services in Vicksburg and was the owner and operator of McBroom Sanitation Service.

He served on the Warren County Bridge Commission for 12 years. He was a member of the Willow Creek Hunting Club, VFW, the American Legion and First Methodist Protestant Church.

Mr. McBroom was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley Earl and Rosalie McCanley McBroom Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Pearline McBroom of Vicksburg; two daughters, Linda McBroom of Shreveport, La., and Judy Swan of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Georgia Kato of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Hazel Allen of Decatur, Ala.; three brothers, Charles McBroom of Richland, Miss., George McBroom of Baskin, La., and Claude McBroom of St. Louis, Mo.; a granddaughter, Abigail Swan of Baton Rouge; and other relatives.

Services for Mr. McBroom will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Revs. J.T. Morgan and Roy Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Doug Tanner, Daniel J. Swan IV, Charles Hearn, Glen Worthy, Dick Palermo and Rodgers Coffing.

Honorary pallbearers will be Buck Tanner, Bob Wardlaw, Bill Tyler, Jim Allred, Gordon Stevens and Walter Griffith.

TREY WARD

Trey Ward, infant son of Thomas E. “Bubba” Jr. and Jessica Beyers Ward, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Thomas E. and Debbie Ward of Vicksburg; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Addie Beyers of Vicksburg; and his great-grandparents, Marvin and Sammy Howard of Vicksburg, James and Joyce Pickett of Pensacola, Fla., and Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Coffman of East Pepperell, Mass.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

FANNIE PEACHES WATSON

RACINE, Wis. Fannie Peaches Watson, formerly of Vicksburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Racine, Wis. She was 74.

Mrs. Watson was a member of Holy Disciple Pentecostal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Watson; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Coatney Peaches; two children, Addie Willis and Benard Hargrove; one sister, Virgie Kemp; and two brothers, Walter Peaches and Coatney Peaches Jr.

She is survived by two daughters, Norma Sanders and Laura Allen, both of Racine; two sons, Robert Hargrove Jr. of Racine and Sammie Willis of Houston, Texas; one sister, Shirley Peaches of Vicksburg; one brother, Richard Peaches of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives, including Fannie Johnson and members of the Strong, Wilson, Thomas, Jackson, Hunter, Cage, Walker and Jones families.
