Lady Vikes 1 win from title

[9/26/01]Warren Central inched closer to a division title on Tuesday with a 13-5 win at Natchez.

WC (17-4, 3-0 Division 6-5A) led 8-0 after 5 1/2 innings, but Natchez closed to within 8-4 in the bottom of the sixth with the help of four WC errors. WC then put the game away with five runs in the seventh inning.

Marilyn Landers went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for WC, Ashley Chaney went 2-for-4 with a three-run triple in the second inning, and Anna Mitchell singled in two runs.

The Lady Vikes, who have already clinched a playoff spot, can win the division title by beating Natchez again on Monday at Lady Vike Field.

Dayna Nugent had four hits, including two doubles, and Shannon Arnold had a two-run home run as the Missy Gators (10-12) churned out 19 hits in three innings and took advantage of seven first-inning walks. Viola Howard also had four hits, including a double, and Brandi Parker had three hits and a double. Ashley Burden, LaToya Trunell and Heather Shelby had two hits with a double apiece.
