VHS 10-6, Clinton 5-19

Vicksburg High pounded Clinton in the first game, then got pounded in the second.

In the opener, the Missy Gators (11-14) cranked out 17 hits three apiece by Shannon Arnold and Viola Howard. Brandi Parker, Wendy Womble, Emily Mathes and winning pitcher Dayna Nugent all had two hits for VHS, which held the Lady Arrows (11-13) to one run through five innings.

In the second game, Arnold went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and Mathes had three hits, but Clinton put up 13 runs over the final three innings to bury VHS.

Heather Shelby and Womble had two hits apiece for VHS.

“We played well in the first game, but they just came out hitting and we made some errors in the second game,” Missy Gators coach Jennifer Wilkerson said.

Nugent was hit on her big toe by a line drive in the first inning. She stayed in the game, but wasn’t the same after that, Wilkerson said.
