O’NEAL “BILL” CATLEDGE

ONWARD O’Neal “Bill” Catledge died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at his home in Onward. He was 79.

Mr. Catledge was born in Lepanto, Ark., and had lived in Sharkey County for the past 70 years. He was a retired farmer and a retired employee of Southern Natural Gas. He was a member of Cary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George T. and Annie Sullivan Catledge; a son, James O’Neal Catledge; one sister, Lucille Catledge; and four brothers, Roy Catledge, Hason Catledge, Leland Catledge and Harold Catledge.

Survivors include his wife, Vonda Housdan Catledge of Onward; one daughter, Nancy Kaye Catledge of Lubbock, Texas; a stepdaughter, Tina Housdan of Brandon; a stepson, Jeff Housdan of Norfolk, Va.; one brother, George Walter Catledge of Onward; three sisters, Delores Lovie Hudgens of Oklahoma City, Lena E. McManus of Brandon and Juanita Matthews of Vienna, Va.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Cary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Sanders, the Rev. Reese Kyzar and Russell Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Cary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Pallbearers will be Michael Presley, Russ Stewart, Randy Darden, C.J. Clarke, Phillip Byrd, Jimmy Priddy, Mike Lamensdorf and Kiley White.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Lamensdorf, Gene Fulton, Clifton Porter and Hayes Carlisle.

ANNIE JAMES DOUGLAS

Services for Annie James Douglas will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Sammie Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Douglas died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 84.

A homemaker, Mrs. Douglas was a member of St. Luke M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Douglas; her parents, Elijah and Eliza James; five brothers, Ollie James, the Rev. Silas James, the Rev. Thomas James, Robert James and Buster James; and two sisters, Bernice McGee and Elnora Waiter.

She is survived by a daughter, Annie Lee Jones of Vicksburg; two brothers, Roosevelt James of Vicksburg and Elijah James of Jackson; two grandchildren, Dwan Cotton of Dallas and Keith Jones of Port Allen, La.; great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including James Jones of Vicksburg.

BEULAH ROSS DUKE

Beulah Ross Duke died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 84.

A native of Jefferson County, Mrs. Duke lived in Hinds County for a number of years before moving to Vicksburg in 1954. She was employed with Toney’s Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor and retired in 1988 from Brown’s Laundromat. She attended Redwood United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan Duke Hughley of Bolton; two sons, Jonathan Duke Jr. and David P. Duke, both of Vicksburg; four sisters, Ruby Hackler of Vicksburg, Olive Vincent of Irving, Texas, Barbara Nell Apoka of Lawton, Okla., and Gladys Bass of Brandon; one brother, Roy Ross of Eagle Lake; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 today until the service at the funeral home.

LOTTIE EMRICK SIMMONS

PEARL Lottie Emrick Simmons died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at the home of her daughter. She was 83.

A former resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Simmons was a homemaker. She was born in Yokena and had lived in Pearl with her daughter for the past 30 years. She was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Simmons.

Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Meadows of Pearl and Betty Jean Barnes of Slidell, La.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were today at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Mark Seepe Funeral Home of Jackson.

ELIZABETH WASHINGTON

Elizabeth Washington died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 86.

Mrs. Washington was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Ladies of Fidelity. She was a retired nurse assistant and also worked in the cafeteria at St. Mary’s Catholic School.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Agnes Washington.

She is survived by a cousin, Helen White of Vicksburg; and other relatives.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
