[10/03/01]Vicksburg High didn’t get many hits Tuesday against Forest Hill, but they didn’t have to.

The Missy Gators had only seven hits, but drew 10 walks four of them with the bases loaded and took advantage of four Forest Hill errors to pound the Lady Rebels, 15-1.

Dayna Nugent went 3-for-3 with five RBIs on a single, double, triple and a bases-loaded walk to lead VHS (13-14). Brandi Parker added a double, two RBIs, and scored four runs, Dejane Hill tripled and drove in two runs, and Latoya Trunell and Katie Jenkins each walked twice and scored two runs.

“We focused on waiting on their pitch, and I thought they did a real good job with that,” VHS coach Jennifer Wilkerson said.

Forest Hill (4-7) had only one hit, a third-inning single by left fielder Lindsay Humphries, but used three VHS errors in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.

The Missy Gators quickly got that back, however, when Parker led off the bottom of the inning with a double and scored on Nugent’s single.

Five walks, including two with the bases loaded, and an error that allowed two runs to score gave VHS a 5-1 lead after two innings, and the Missy Gators blew the game open with seven runs in the third.

An RBI single by Ashley Burden and Nugent’s two-run triple keyed the rally, which was helped along by two errors and four more walks.

The big win helped the Missy Gators go into next Tuesday’s division showdown with Natchez on a high note. VHS, which lost to Natchez in their earlier meeting this season, must beat the Lady Dawgs by two or more runs to make the playoffs.

The game will be Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in Natchez. VHS doesn’t play again before then.

“Everything we do now, we’re focusing on Natchez because that’s a big game for us,” Wilkerson said. “We have to be prepared to throw the ball well and get it in, because they run the bases well.”
