John D. Martin

John D. “JD” Martin died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001 at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 83.

Mr. Martin was a retired self-employed carpenter, a member of New Hope Baptist Church 7th Street Gretna in Gretna, La. and a member of Old Men’s Baseball Club.

Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his father Robert Martin; mother Idlean Spencer Martin and two brothers, Otis C. Martin and Aubry Martin.

He is survived by one daughter, Clara Jean Wilson of Meridian; one God daughter, Agnes Doyle of Gretna, La.; seven sisters, Bertha Allen, Unzell Wilkerson, Phaurphine Williams, Robbie Jean Williams, all from Vicksburg, Mary Anderson of Edwards; Honaray Cook of New Orleans, Evelyn Kelly of Springfield, Mass.; one granddaughter, one aunt and nieces and nephews.

Services will be handled by W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Ethel Lee Bingham

Ethel Lee Bingham died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory. She was 74.

Mrs. Bingham was a retired employee of Vicksburg Medical Center and a member of Triumph Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Issac Bingham; her son, Elgie Dean Sadberry; and her parents, Ethel Lee Benard and Pinkney Johnson.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Ann Thomas Wilson of Okolona; two adopted daughters, Jessie Watson of Chicago and Carol Thomas Milton of Grand Rapids, Mich.; one adopted son, Leon Thomas Jr. of Vallejo, Calif.; two sisters, Ethel Lee Williams of Vallejo, Calif., and Irasteen Williams of Los Angeles; two brothers, Elijah Johnson and Cornelius Johnson, both of Vicksburg; two grandsons, including Lambert Wade Thomas of Vicksburg; six granddaughters, 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and other relatives, including Helen Green of New Orleans, the Caples family and Hermal Libbett.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Triumph Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Nicks officiating.
