ROSS J. WHEATLEY

Services for Ross J. “Popeye” Wheatley will be at noon Tuesday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Lewis Lassiter officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Wheatley died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 80.

Mr. Wheatley was a former employee of Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lula West Johnson; his stepfather, Andrew Johnson; two brothers, Bob Powell and Gene Powell; and two sisters, Ruby Walton and Gertrude Powell.

He is survived by two brothers, Claude Powell of Carson, Calif., and Harry Powell Sr. of Vicksburg; nieces; nephews; cousins; and other relatives including the Pugh, Lassiter and Lee families and Magnolia Garner, all of Vicksburg.

HENRY BROWN

Henry “Hon” Brown died today, Oct. 8, 2001, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 82.

Mr. Brown was a retired employee of Batesville Casket Company. He was a member of Mount Zion M.B. Church in Claiborne County where he was a deacon.

He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Reed; his parents, Dennis Brown Sr. and Mollie Pollard Brown; five brothers, Dennis Brown Jr., Robert Lee Brown, James Brown, Evans Brown and Fred Jack Brown; and three sisters, Lucy Brown, Mary Brown and Madeline Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Curline Williams Brown of Vicksburg; four sons, George J. Brown, Charles H. Brown and Leon Brown, all of Vicksburg, and Lee A. Brown of Aurora, Ill.; four daughters, Bernadine B. Hatchett, Patricia Shelly and Patricia Clay, all of Vicksburg, and Lisa Mann of Racine, Wis.; his brother, Wesley Brown of Kalamazoo, Mich.; 23 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
