KENNETH D. GAYLE

TALLULAH Kenneth D. Gayle died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at Delhi Hospital. He was 55.

A native of Madison Parish, Mr. Gayle was a farmer and trucker. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Sullivan Gayle of Tallulah; two sons, Kenneth “Kenny” Gayle and Gideon Gayle, both of Tallulah; one daughter, Dulcie Gayle of Tallulah; three brothers, Steve Gayle, John Gayle and Frank Gayle, all of Tallulah; one sister, Sandra Herman of Tallulah; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Troy Dean Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah.

Pallbearers will be Alvin Sullivan, Jerrel Sullivan Sr., David Sullivan, Jimmy Sullivan, Johnny Sullivan and Daniel Sullivan.

JOY O. TACCARINO

Joy O. Taccarino died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 74.

A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Taccarino was the daughter of the late Robert D. and Ruby King O’Connor. She was a 1944 graduate of Culkin Academy High School. She retired from Waterways Experiment Station after 27 years of service in the Technical Information Center.

She is survived by her husband, Paul A. Taccarino of Vicksburg; her son, Gregory E. Thomas of Hattiesburg; her sister, Peggy L. O’Connor of Vicksburg; her brother, Dr. R.D. O’Connor of Winter Haven, Fla; and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Sam Dunaway officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Billy Coomes, Johnny Nassour, James Ahrend, Tom Housal and Arvis Dennis.

Honorary pallbearers will be co-workers and friends at Waterways Experiment Station.

JAMES ROBERT SWARTZ SR.

Services for James Robert Swartz will be at 11 a.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Swartz died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at his home. He was 76.

Born in Warren County, he retired as a dry keel operator from Anderson-Tully Lumber Mill after 45 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan Swartz Sr. and Annie Johnson Swartz; a brother, Dan Swartz Jr.; and a sister, Bertha Tolliver.

Survivors include Lorine King of Vicksburg; four sons, James R. Swartz Jr. of Junction City, Kan., and James E. Swartz, Charles E. Swartz and Willie H. Swartz, all of Vicksburg; two stepsons, Bubba Judge Sr. and Jimmy King, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Dorothy Ware and Vivian Ware, both of Vicksburg; five stepdaughters, Mae Ruth Watson of Maywood, Ill., and Christine Bingham, Jacqueline Boykins, Chondra King and Melva Curry, all of Vicksburg; one brother, Roosevelt Swartz of Chicago; two sisters, Annie B. Adams and Ruby Swartz, both of Chicago; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

GRADY WATKINS

Grady Watkins died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 95.

Born in Madden, Mr. Watkins had lived in Lake for a number of years. He had lived in Vicksburg for the past 15 years. He was a retired employee of the state highway department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. He was a member of the D.A.V. and of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his son, Glenn Watkins of Vicksburg; his daughter, Macy Jo Wright of Bainbridge, Ga.; his brother, Cliff Watkins of Philadelphia; three sisters, Bettie Ford, Loca Watkins and Alma Fryery, all of Vicksburg; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Brain Ivey officiating. Burial will be at 4 at Mount Zion Cemetery in Sebastapol.

Visitation will be from noon until the service Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Watkins, Gordon Watkins, Mike Wright, David Wright, Dwain Cotton and Bill Strong.
