TOM C. HARRIS JR.
Tom C. Harris Jr. died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at his home. He was 68.
Mr. Harris retired from the Vicksburg Police Department as a lieutenant. He was a member of Traveler’s Rest M.B. Church, where he was in the choir.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of American Legion Tyner-Ford Post No. 213.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommie Harris Sr. and Beatrice Wilson.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl H. Harris; one daughter, Kimberly Watts of Vicksburg; one brother, McKinley Harris Sr. of Vicksburg; two grandchildren, Khristopher Norfort and Kordell Norfort; and other relatives, including Gertrude Huell.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
ESSIE LEE JONES
Essie Lee Jones died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 70.
Born in Yazoo County, Mrs. Jones was a retired homemaker. She was a member of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elester Jones and Mozella Williams Jones Sims.
She is survived by her son, Cleonis Jones; her daughter, Earnestine Jones Dulaney; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 406 Klein St. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lindsey Funeral Home of Yazoo City.
Pallbearers will be Charles Williams, Milton Butler, Johnny David, Kenny Bracey, Charles Canda, Calvin Williams and Roderick Burden.
WILLIAM ARMAJER MARTIN JR.
Services for William Armajer “Billy” Martin Jr. will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Edwards City Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Bryant, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon until the service Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Martin died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 75.
Born in Edwards, he was the son of the late William Armajer Sr. and Margaret McCraine Martin. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served on the LST 577. He retired from Farmers Home Administration with more than 30 years of service. He was also an independent real estate appraiser for several years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Dell Carson Martin.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Anne Martin of Vicksburg and Brenda Lenora Martin of Edwards; his son, William Armajer Martin III of Lexington, Ky.; two sisters, Betty Pace of Vicksburg and Christine Gwinner of Tempe, Ariz.; three grandchildren and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Billy Johnson, Dennis Irwin, Martin Pace, Bubba McLendon, Daniel Hickman and Michael Hickman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Franky McLendon, Garry Hickman, Dr. Mark Stanley and Warren Pace.
