SISTER MARY EMMANUEL HARPER

Sister Mary Emmanuel Harper, R.S.M., died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at Our Lady of Wisdom Health Care Center in New Orleans. She was 95.

A native of McComb, Sister Emmanuel was born Marjorie Harper to Robert and Hannah Higgins Harper. She attended St. Alphonsus Elementary School and graduated from St. Mary of the Pines Chatawa. She attended New Orleans Normal School for Teachers and was certified in Mississippi and Louisiana.

She received a bachelor of arts degree from Loyola University in New Orleans and a master of arts from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. A member of the Sisters of Mercy for 70 years, she made her vows in Vicksburg.

Sister Emmanuel served as a teacher in Mississippi Mercy Schools and was principal for more than 20 years at St. Joseph in Greenville, Sacred Heart in Biloxi and St. Francis Xavier Academy in Vicksburg. She also taught English and Latin and served at Holy Name School in New Orleans and St. Joseph High School in Jackson, where she was athletic director and dramatics sponsor.

She was director of education services at Mercy Hospital in Vicksburg and acted as archivist for the Sisters of Mercy in Mississippi.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, including J. Henry Larose and Nolan Sidney Harper, both of Jackson; Dr. James Larose of Montgomery, Ala.; Faye Casey of Slidell, La.; Marion Larose of Cypress, Texas; Joan Kennedy Conner of Memphis; and Joseph Kennedy of Dallas; and her great-niece and namesake, Marjorie Conner.

Prayer service and Rosary will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Wisdom Chapel, 5600 Gen. De Gaulle Drive, New Orleans.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg.

Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. Monday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home in Vicksburg.

STANLEY LEACH

Stanley Leach died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was 70.

Born in Scott County, Mr. Leach had lived in Vicksburg for the past 47 years. He was a retired logger. He attended the Apostolic Christian Academy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Leach.

Survivors include four sons, Curtis Leach, George Leach, Kenneth Leach and Bobby Leach, all of Vicksburg; two daughters, Marie Hall and Kathy Greer, both of Vicksburg; three brothers, Mack Leach of Union, Willard Leach of Yazoo City and Gerald Leach of McGehee, Ark.; two sisters, Bobbie Mason and Berdine Knight, both of Vicksburg; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Keith Leach, Wesley Leach, Greg Sanderford, Matthew Pettway, Millard Leach Jr. and Darryl Leach.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kirby Day, Shorty Faulkner, Nobby Day, Ronnie Leach, Ricky Leach, Richard Hall, Martin Pace and Richard Bryant.

JESSIE JAMES MONTGOMERY

Jessie James Montgomery died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, in Jackson. He was 57.

Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by his mother, Sadie Lee Montgomery; his father, Andrew Montgomery; and two brothers, Andrew Montgomery Jr. and George Montgomery.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Montgomery of Vicksburg; his daughter, Tosha Roschell Montgomery of Vicksburg; two sons, Jessie James Montgomery Jr. of Pearl and Steve A. Montgomery of Sea Side, Calif.; two sisters, Catherine Johnson of Jackson and Christine Montgomery of New Orleans; four brothers, Oscar Lee Montgomery, Theodore Montgomery, L.F. Montgomery and Frank Montgomery, all of Jackson; and his stepmother, Marie Montgomery.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Seven Star M.B. Church in Utica under the direction of Westhaven Funeral Home.
