DOROTHY PHYLLIS CHASE

Dorothy Phyllis Chase died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 84.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Chase had lived in Vicksburg since 1993. She was a professional ballet dancer and instructor for 21 years. She was a member of Dance Masters of America.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry J. Chase.

She is survived by her son, Alfred W. Chase of Merritt Island, Fla.; her daughter, Phyllis Birchett of Vicksburg; her brother, John O. Hallberg of Greenville, S.C.; two grandchildren, Beryl Chase of Merritt Island and Micark Birchett of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

Services will be at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Mid-Mississippi Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association, 1900 Dunbarton Drive, Suite 1, Jackson, MS 39216.

Fisher-Riles Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

LUCY COLEMAN

FAYETTE Lucy Coleman died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at Hospice Ministries. She was 85.

Born in Jefferson County, Mrs. Coleman was a member of Locust Grove M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Coleman Sr.; a son, Robert Coleman Jr.; her parents, Sam and Viola Queen; three brothers, Willie Queen, Albert Queen and Sam Queen Jr.; and two sisters, Ella Brown and Alma Glass.

Survivors include five daughters, Helen L. Whitney of Port Gibson, Lillian T. Counsel and Estella M. Coleman, both of Fayette, Gertrude C. Murphy of Jackson and Claressa Leary of North Carolina; her son, Willie Coleman of Jackson; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Locust Grove M.B. Church in Fayette with the Rev. Jesse Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 7 tonight at Rollins Funeral Home in Fayette.

Pallbearers will be Willie Coleman, Rickey Banks, Henry Walton, Percy Council, John Graham and Jerry Brown.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Cruel Jr., Kelvin R. Counsel. Gregory L. Murphy, Andera D. Murphy, Deon D. Coleman, Darren Coleman, Bakari Leary and Brian Leary.

FLORENCE HART-EDWARDS

LORMAN Florence Hart Edwards died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at her home in Lorman. She was 70.

Born in Jefferson County, Mrs. Hart-Edwards was a homemaker. She was a member of Morning Star M.B. Church where she was a member of the mother board. She was also a member of the Heroines of Jericho.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Revse Louis Edwards; four brothers, Edmond Hart, Frank Hart Jr., Odell Hart and Emanuel Hart; and a sister, Mary Lou Newman.

Survivors include a son, Eddie Louis Thomas of Houston, Texas; a sister, Savannah Thomas of Jackson; two nieces and a nephew; and six grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Rollins Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Russum.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 tonight at Rollins Funeral Home in Fayette.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Brown, Robert Jackson, Michael Brown, Jo Willie Franklin, Tommy Dean Wilson and Eddie Brown.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ellis Clark, Warren Brown, James Donell Clark, Mark Carter and Bobby Brown.

JESSIE JOHNSON

Services for Jessie Johnson will be at 2 p.m. today at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlie Blackmore officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 46.

He was a member of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Will Johnson.

Survivors include his mother, Josephine Johnson Kenny of Vicksburg; four brothers, Leon Johnson of Dallas, James Johnson and Timothy L. Johnson, both of Vicksburg, and Cleotha Johnson of Jackson; six sisters, Loraine Miller of Jackson and Joyce M. Anderson, Edna Lee Williams, Olivia Hagan, Lee Virgia Johnson and Leanna Patterson, all of Vicksburg; and other relatives.

OSIE MAE McGRAW

Services for Osie Mae McGraw were at 11 a.m. today at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Burial followed under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mrs. McGraw died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 76.

Born in Hinds County, Mrs. McGraw was a retired nurse’s aide.

She was preceded in death by her parents, R.J. and Sallie Ann Robinson.

She is survived by three sisters, Roberta Harris of Vicksburg, Ruth Jacob of Chicago and Francis Robinson of California; two nephews, Leo Harris Jr. and Leo Harris III, both of Vicksburg; a niece, Angela Andrews of Vicksburg; and other relatives including Catherine Molex Currie, Louis Tyler and Elton Mays, all of Vicksburg.
