ROBERT EDWIN COX JR.

EDWARDS Robert Edwin Cox Jr. died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson. He was 71.

A native of Edwards, Mr. Cox was a retired construction worker. He was a veteran of the Army, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of Edwards Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. Cox and Bessie Patton Cox; a brother, Shelby Cox; and a sister, Billie Ruth Cox.

Survivors include five brothers, Lamar E. Cox of Portland, Ore., and William E. Cox, Franklin L. Cox, Marvin Cox and Jimmy D. Cox, all of Edwards; two sisters, Bertha Cox Rather and Betty Cox White, both of Edwards.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Edwards Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home of Jackson. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

ROBERT A. GATLING

FORT WORTH, Texas Robert A. Gatling died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at his brother’s home in Van Buren, Ark. He was 43.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Gatling was a graduate of Warren Central High School and Hinds Community College. He received his degree in electrical engineering from Mississippi State University. He was a resident of Fort Worth, Texas, where he was employed with Texas Utilities Company. He was a member and deacon at Arlington Heights Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Gatling; and a nephew, Gabe Gatling.

Survivors include his mother, Mary D. Gatling of Vicksburg; four brothers, James M. Gatling of Crystal Lake, Ill., Leslie C. Gatling and David K. Gatling, both of Van Buren, and Jody G. Gatling of Vicksburg; and his sister, Beth Stubbs of Port Gibson, Okla.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be James G. Gatling, Leslie Gatling, David Gatling, Jody Gatling, Michael Gatling, Kameron Burnham, Christopher Gatling and Mathew Burnham.

GEORGE A. MOORE

PEARL George A. “Skeeter” Moore died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson. He was 81.

A native of Yazoo City, Mr. Moore had lived in Pearl for the past eight years. He owned and operated Moore’s Cleaners and was a member of the V.F.W. Toxie Stapleton Post No. 6473.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Moore of Pearl; his daughter, Sue M. Steen of Vicksburg; a stepson, Danny Edwards of Brandon; a brother, Fred Moore of Jackson; his sister, Mildred Lippincott of Pascagoula; two grandchildren, Doug Steen and Laura Steen, both of Vicksburg; and four stepgrandchildren, Michelle Carter, Jay Edwards, Lauren Edwards and Ryan Edwards.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

JEAN GOSSEN PRICKETT

Services for Jean Gossen Prickett will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Jacks, pastor of Northside Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Prickett died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 66.

She was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 30 years.

She was elected “Woman of the Year” for the Vicksburg District Corps of Engineers for her efforts and achievements and her assistance to other women in their advancement.

She also received the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service in 1998. She served as clerk in the Revetment Branch, Operations Division from 1971 to 1983.

She served as lead clerk on the mat sinking unit as the first permanent woman on board from 1984 to 1993 and served as towboat clerk on the Motor Vessel Benyuard from 1994 to 1999.

Mrs. Prickett was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Prickett; and her parents, Gus E. and Theo Jacks Gossen.

She is survived by her daughters, Wendy Prickett Cwiklinski of San Diego, Calif., and Terri Prickett of Vicksburg; three sons, Dennis Prickett of York, England, Todd Prickett of Vicksburg and David Prickett of San Diego, 10 grandchildren; a brother, Ronald E. Gossen of Summerville, S.C.; a nephew and three nieces.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Harrison, Gaylan McGregor, Dennis Norris, David Garrick, Johnny Leachman and Doug McMichael.

WILLIS TAYLOR

Willis “W.C.” Taylor died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 66.

Mr. Taylor was a native of Spearsville, La., and had lived in Satartia for 34 years. He served in the Air Force for four years and was employed with International Paper Company for 47 years. He had been a maintenance supervisor for 29 years. A Mason, he was a member of Satartia Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, James David Taylor.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Royston Taylor of Satartia; his son, Kevin Taylor of Vicksburg; his mother, Stella Howell Taylor of Spearsville, La.; two brothers, T.L. Taylor of Atlanta, Texas and James Bernard Taylor of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters, Hilda Kellett of Alvin, Texas, and Ginger Swanner of Bossier City, La.; and other relatives.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Chip Starnes, pastor of Bovina Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Beech Grove Cemetery in Spearsville.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Bill Muirhead, Mike Harris, Dick Muirhead, Bill Harris, Richard Hanks and Brent Harris.

Honorary pallbearers will be the International Paper maintenance department, Frank Harris and Dr. Russell Barnes.
