William B. Jones died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was 89.

Mr. Jones was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and was employed at Vicksburg Seed Store for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Harriet Jones.

Mr. Jones is survived by his brother, Spearman Jones of Detroit; four grandchildren, Angelena Jones, Delores Jones, and Jeffery Jones all of Vicksburg and Mary Ann Jones of Hazlehurst; a godchild, Maxine Davenport of Vicksburg; and a number of other relatives.

DOLLY MARGUERITE THOMPSON

PORT GIBSON Services for Dolly Marguerite Thompson will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port Gibson with the the Rev. Robert Zawacki officiating.

Burial will follow at Scott Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Thompson died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson. She was 86.

Mrs. Thompson was involved in the civil rights movement in the 1960s and was the wife of the founder of Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

She managed the funeral home for a number of years and was the founding president of Our Mart Inc.

Mrs. Thompson was a lifelong member of the NAACP where she served as state secretary.

She was a member of The Links Inc. and a member of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club Inc.

She was a board member of the Mississippi Cultural Crossroads and State Mutual Savings and Loan.

Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, Carl C. Thompson Sr., her parents; a sister, Juanita Wyatt; and two sons, Carl C. Thompson Jr. and Dannie M. Thompson Sr.

She is survived by her son, Ronald A. Thompson Sr. of Jackson; a daughter, Ruth Vincent of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Delores Smith of Port Gibson; an adopted son, Henry Lee Claiborne of Port Gibson; an adopted sister, Lela Turner of St. Louis, Mo.; a niece, Consuella Bishop of Jackson; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends including the White and Green families of Natchez.

Pallbearers will be Robert Woodruff Jr., Robert Woodruff III, Kenneth Ross, Theodore West, Dr. Demetria Marshall, James Devaul and Barry Phelps.

Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan Jones, Dr. Robert Smith, Charles King, Marino Casem, David Durden and George H. Walker Sr.

JUDGE WRIGHT

Services for Judge Wright will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Williams Funeral Service Chapel.

Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at the chapel.

Mr. Wright died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 62.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Wright was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Shelby “Duke” Wright; his grandmother, Rosie Shuler Stevens; an aunt, Lizzie “Sweet” Gillmore; and an uncle, Robert “Bob” Robertson.

Mr. Wright is survived by his mother, Roberta R. Wright of Vicksburg; a son, Charles Wright of Ontario, Calif.; a daughter, Percy Wright of Vicksburg; five sisters, Rose Wright of Aurora, Ill., Barbara Wright, Roberta Linda Polk and Shappy Wright all of Vicksburg, and Rochella Lewis of Vacaville, Calif.; and three grandchildren; and other relatives including Gloria Hurston.
