Parker’s 5 goals pace VHS girls; Gators fall to Murrah

[11/20/01]Brandi Parker scored five goals to lead Vicksburg High in an 11-1 rout at Murrah.

“We played better as team,” said coach Kevin Manton, whose team was coming off its first loss.

Neely Nasif had two goals and two assists and seventh-grader Holly Head had two goals, one on an assist from sister Brandi Head, and an assist. Beth Ashby had a goal and an assist, Viola Howard scored and Michelle Beatty had two assists.

Parker had three straight goals to start the second half after Holly Head closed the first half with back-to-back scores.

(B) Murrah 3, VHS 2

Justin Jones had a goal and an assist and Jeremy Johnson netted a goal, but Murrah scored with 10 minutes to play in the game for a 3-2 lead.

Ahmed Ali, Oghale Ighovadha and Rodrigo Torres each scored goals for the Mustangs. Vicksburg (2-1-1) missed six shots that were about 6 yards from the goal.

“That’s what it’s been like all year, missing left or right or over,” Vicksburg coach Josh Harper said. “They are unacceptable elementary mistakes.”

The Gators will be at Callaway on Monday.
