GEORGIA BATTLE
Georgia Battle died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, in Flint, Mich. She was 77.
A homemaker, Mrs. Battle was a member of Shiloh M.B. Church where she was an usher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Battle; her parents, John Guise and Nattie Mae Guise; and a brother, John Guise Jr.
She is survived by her son, Eugene Cobbins of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her daughter, Emma Thomas of Vicksburg; two brothers, Nathaniel Guise of Flint, Mich., and Willie B. Guise of St. Louis, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Valley M.B. Church, 2585 N. Washington St., with the Rev. Douglas Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
MAGNOLIA GARNER
Magnolia Garner died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 88.
Mrs. Garner was a retired nurse with the Sisters of Mercy at the McAuley Home. She was a founder of Grace Chapter No. 5 Order of Eastern Star Martha Grand Chapter. She was a member of Mercy Seat M.B. church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Garner; her parents, Louis and Elizabeth Joyner Pugh; two brothers, the Rev. Ezikiel Pugh and Garfield Pugh; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Pugh and Lula Pugh; and a nephew, the Rev. Wright L. Lassiter Sr.
She is survived by a niece, Leonia Pugh Robinson; a nephew, Dave Lewis; a godson, the Rev. Lewis Lassiter; and other relatives.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
CARRIE HARRIS
Carrie Harris died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 77.
Miss Harris was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcus Harris and Rosie Ford Harris; four brothers, Joseph Harris, John Harris, Ike Harris and Edgar Harris.
She is survived by two sons, John Harris and Willie Murphy, both of Vicksburg; two sisters, Mary Harris of Vicksburg and Pearl Hayes of Houston, Texas; and eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and other relatives.

LOUIS GLEN PEYTON
SLIDELL, La. Louis Glen Peyton died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Crosby Medical Center in Picayune. He was 96.
A native of Utica, Mr. Peyton had lived in Slidell for the past six years. He was an employee with the National Hotel Corp. He retired as a manager with the Jung Hotel in New Orleans.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Miller Peyton; three brothers, Fred Peyton, Thomas Peyton and Charles Peyton; and a sister, Myrtle Cox.
He is survived by two daughters, Marguerite P. Sorrels of Slidell and Sylvia P. Pelicano of Metairie, La.; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cayuga United Methodist Church in Utica. Burial will follow under the direction of Honaker Funeral Home of Slidell.
Memorials may be made to Cayuga United Methodist Church in Utica.
LEONARD SELMON
Services for Leonard Selmon will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Travelers Rest M.B. Church. Repast will follow at the church.
Visitation will be from noon Friday until the service at the church.
Mr. Selmon died Monday Dec. 17, 2001, at his home. He was 70.
Mr. Selmon retired from Anderson-Tully Co. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Judorn and Annie Bell Selmon; and two brothers, Bernard Selmon and Joe Lewis Selmon.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Selmon Phelps and Lillie Selmon, both of Vicksburg; a son, Warren County Supervisor Charles Selmon of Vicksburg; the mother of his children, Alberta Selmon; a stepson, Johnny Green of Vicksburg; two stepdaughters, Barbara Copeland and Rose Hunt, both of Vicksburg; four sisters, Olor Mae Selmon, Emma Mae Frazier and Lizzie Mae Selmon, all of Utica, and Willie Mae Roach of Jackson; two brothers, Willie John Selmon of Louisiana and Leon Selmon of Utica; five grandchildren; other relatives and friends, including Alberta Moore of Vicksburg.

LOREE FULFORD TEMPLE
WINNSBORO, La. Loree Fulford Temple died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, in Winnsboro, La. She was 75.
Mrs. Temple was born in Baskin, La., and was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Winnsboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Temple; and a son, Roger Temple.
Survivors include one son, Terry Earl Temple of Vicksburg; two daughters, Carolyn Ann Miles of Winnsboro and Brenda Gayle Merrill Johnson of Deer Park, Texas; one brother, Robert Fulford of Crowville, La.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Temple Baptist Church with the Revs. Jim Taylor and Ron Ferrington officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until noon Friday at Gill Funeral Home in Winnsboro and from 1 p.m. Friday until the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Merrill, Johnathon Merrill, Jason Temple, Truett Temple and Ralph Cottingham.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
JO EVELYN FRANKLIN WALKER
Jo Evelyn Franklin Walker died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 61.
A lifelong resident of the Bovina community, Mrs. Walker worked for Vicksburg Head Start for a number of years.
She was a member of New Hope M.B. Church of Bovina and the Bovina Homemakers Club.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Toni Walker.
Survivors include her husband, Roosevelt Walker; two daughters, Washena Walker of Vicksburg and Crystal “Cookie” Newman of Columbus, Miss.; one son, Javin Walker of Jackson; her mother, Louise Franklin of Bovina; two sisters, Doris Jean Williams of Cleveland, Ohio, and Patricia Williams of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
