MAGNOLIA GARNER

Services for Magnolia Garner will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat M.B. Church with the Rev. Rudy Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 until 8 tonight at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Garner died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 88.

Mrs. Garner was a retired nurse with the Sisters of Mercy at the McAuley Home. She was a founder of Grace Chapter No. 5 Order of Eastern Star Martha Grand Chapter. She was a member of Mercy Seat M.B. church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Garner; her parents, Louis and Elizabeth Joyner Pugh; two brothers, the Rev. Ezikiel Pugh and Garfield Pugh; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Pugh and Lula Pugh; and a nephew, the Rev. Wright L. Lassiter Sr.

She is survived by a niece, Leonia Pugh Robinson; a nephew, Dave Lewis; a godson, the Rev. Lewis Lassiter; and other relatives.

CARRIE HARRIS

Services for Carrie Harris will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Ray Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Miss Harris died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 77.

Miss Harris was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcus Harris and Rosie Ford Harris; four brothers, Joseph Harris, John Harris, Ike Harris and Edgar Harris; and three sisters, Ollie Byrd, Martha Johnson and Annie Middleton.

She is survived by two sons, John Harris and Willie Murphy, both of Vicksburg; one daughter, Carrie Harris Bolls of Vicksburg; two sisters, Mary Harris and Pearl Hayes, both of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

LOUIS GLEN PEYTON

SLIDELL, La. Services for Louis Glen Peyton will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 29, at Cayuga United Methodist Church in Utica. Burial will follow under the direction of Honaker Funeral Home of Slidell.

Mr. Peyton died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Crosby Medical Center in Picayune. He was 96.

A native of Utica, he had lived in Slidell for the past six years. He was an employee with the National Hotel Corp. He retired as a manager with the Jung Hotel in New Orleans.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Miller Peyton; three brothers, Fred Peyton, Thomas Peyton and Charles Peyton; and a sister, Myrtle Cox.

He is survived by two daughters, Marguerite P. Sorrels of Slidell and Sylvia P. Pelicano of Metairie, La.; and seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Cayuga United Methodist Church in Utica.

CORNELIA G. THOMAS

CARY Cornelia G. Thomas died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at Kings Daughters Hospital in Greenville. She was 84.

Mrs. Thomas was a retired school teacher with 40 years of service. She was also retired as a pianist for area churches.

She is survived by two sons, Alfred “Rickey” Thomas Sr. of Cary and Earl N. Thomas of Chicago; her daughter, Mary Ann Watts of Chicago; three brothers, Claude Curtis of Columbus, Ohio, Warnee Curtis of Gary, Ind., and Fred Baker of Chicago; seven sisters, Earmie J. Mack, Mary F. Scott, Mary Moody, Lovie Harvey, and Carrie McCray, all of Chicago, Betty Maxwell of Greenville and Ora Curtis of San Diego, Calif.; and 41 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion M.B. Church in Cary with Alfred Thomas Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cary Community Center.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church.

Walker Funeral Home of Rolling Fork has charge of the arrangements.

JO EVELYN FRANKLIN WALKER

Services for Jo Evelyn Franklin Walker will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Hope M.B. Church with the Rev. Frank Gardner officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday at Robbins Funeral Home and from 12:30 p.m. until the service Sunday at the church.

Mrs. Walker died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 61.

A lifelong resident of the Bovina community, Mrs. Walker worked for Vicksburg Head Start for a number of years.

She was a member of New Hope M.B. Church of Bovina and the Bovina Homemakers Club.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Toni Walker.

Survivors include her husband, Roosevelt Walker; two daughters, Washena Walker of Vicksburg and Crystal “Cookie” Newman of Columbus, Miss.; one son, Javin Walker of Jackson; her mother, Louise Franklin of Bovina; two sisters, Doris Jean Williams of Cleveland, Ohio, and Patricia Williams of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
