LOIS STREET FERRIS

Lois Street Ferris died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at her home, Buena Vista. She was 79.

Mrs. Street was born and reared in Vicksburg. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Lucien M. Ferris Sr., and her granddaughter, Noelle Ferris.

She is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Anne Ferris of Vicksburg; two sons, Lucien Minor Ferris Jr. and George McQueen “Mac” Ferris, both of Vicksburg; and one sister, Pauline Street Eustis of Metairie, La.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal, with the Rev. Michael Nations, rector, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church’s parish hall from 9 a.m. Monday until the service.

LAURA B. HENDERSON

Laura B. Henderson died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 96.

Mrs. Henderson was born in Warren County and retired from Kings Elementary School after teaching for more than 50 years in Vicksburg and Warren County schools. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Ballground.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Henderson; her parents, Lawson Smith and Louvenia Dillard; three sisters, Ruby Moody, Jeanette Watkins and Ada Patterson; and one brother, Jessie Wells.

She is survived by one brother, Earnest Wells of Greenville; and two sisters, Earnestine Sanders and Callie Haley, both of Greenville.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

JENNIFER JO NELSON

Services for Jennifer Jo Nelson were Saturday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Dunaway officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Ms. Nelson died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 30.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Ms. Nelson attended Vicksburg High School and Mississippi College.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Clyde and Ruth Nelson, and her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Tuccio.

She is survived by two daughters, Hallie Nicole Nettles and Brandy Nicole Nelson, both of Vicksburg; her mother, Dorothy Tuccio Nelson of Vicksburg; her father, Riley Wayne Nelson Sr., of Vicksburg; a brother, Riley Wayne Nelson Jr., of Vicksburg; two sisters, Amy Nelson Armstrong and Rebecca Mae Nelson, both of Vicksburg; her maternal grandfather, Joe Tuccio Sr. of Vicksburg; and other relatives.

Memorials may be made in the name of Brandy Nicole Nelson at the Battlefield branch of Trustmark National Bank.

SAMMIE LEE TAYLOR SR.

Sammie Lee Taylor Sr. died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at the Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 69.

Mr. Taylor was a retired truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Stasie Taylor.

He is survived by one son, Sammie Lee Taylor Jr., of San Diego, Calif.; one daughter Portia T. Coleman of Vicksburg; two brothers, Joseph Taylor and Earl Taylor, both of Vicksburg; three sisters, Gloria Southward of Jackson and Perrie Williams and Louise Taylor Kennedy, both of Vicksburg; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

ATHEN WELLS

LORMAN Athen Wells died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center in Vicksburg. He was 83.

Mr. Wells was a member of Forrest Grove Christian Church. He was an Army veteran and a member of Christian Aid.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Corney Wells and Savannah Shortce.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Wells of Lorman; four sons, Athen Wells Jr., and Tommie Wells, Roger Wells and Isaac Wells, all of Lorman; five daughters, Savannah Moore of Fayette, Mamie Smith of Houston, Texas, and Glenda Green, Katie Byrd and Deborah Wells, all of Lorman; one sister, Rosie Lee Johnson of Chicago; and 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Forrest Grove Christian Church in Pattison with Elder Walter Chambers officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson from 1 until 6 tonight at Forrest Grove Christian Church and from noon Monday until the service.
