VIVIAN SALVO McCRORY PIAZZA

JACKSON Vivian Salvo McCrory Piazza died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson. She was 80.

Mrs. Piazza was born in Natchez and lived in Vicksburg for a number of years before moving to Jackson in 1959. She graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University in New Orleans and retired from University Medical Center, where she was a research medical technologist.

She was a communicant of St. Richard Catholic Church in Jackson, where she was a member of St. Gerald Majella Circle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben J. Piazza Sr.

Survivors include three sons, Ben J. Piazza Jr. and Preston D. Piazza, both of Jackson, and Michael G. Piazza of Gulfport; one daughter, Vijean Piazza Burden of Jackson; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Richard Catholic Church. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Natchez City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 tonight with Rosary at 6:15.

Memorials may be made to St. Richard Catholic Church in Jackson or to St. Mary’s Basilica in Natchez.

WALKER W. WHATLEY

Walker W. Whatley died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 72.

Born in Franklin Parish, La., Mr. Whatley had lived in Vicksburg since 1964. He retired from R.G. LeTourneau and was a veteran of the Navy. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ersa Belle Whatley.

He is survived by two stepsons, Jerry Oliver of Vicksburg and Ronnie Oliver of Memphis, and five stepgrandchildren.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Ivy officiating. Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. Wednesday until the service at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Gerald Shook, Virgil Carter, Chip Ellis, James Tuttle, Jerry Kelly and Don Houston.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sue Hamilton, Georgia Mathes and Don Houston.
