IRENE K. ABERNATHY

GEORGETOWN, Texas Irene K. Abernathy, formerly of Vicksburg, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, in Georgetown, Texas. She was 78.

Mrs. Abernathy was born in Grayburg, Texas, to Richard and Vera Keller. She had lived in Georgetown for 11 years. She attended First Baptist Church of Georgetown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill M. Abernathy.

Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Diane Causey of Leander, Texas, and Ellen E. Abernathy of Austin, Texas; a son, Tom Abernathy of Biloxi; and three grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks in Pflugerville, Texas.

TENA COLEMAN

CARLISLE Tena Coleman died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 83.

A lifelong resident of Carlisle, Mrs. Coleman was a family health worker and homemaker. She was a member of St. Luke M.B. Church in Carlisle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Booker Coleman; her parents, Melissa and Earnest Mobley; a son, Leon Coleman; and sisters and brothers.

Survivors include six sons, Richard Coleman and Eugene Coleman, both of Chicago, Booker Coleman and Earnest Coleman, both of Port Gibson, Chester Coleman of Broadview, Ill., and Henry Coleman; three daughters, Dorothy Claiborne of Port Gibson, Melissa Coleman of Jackson and Mary Coleman of Country Club, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Pearl Hilton of Chicago, Ollie “Topsy” Bland and Pearl Mobley, both of Port Gibson, and Robbie Coleman of Fayette.

GEORGE S. HOLLIDAY

COTTONTON, Ala. George S. Holliday died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Ga. He was 77.

Mr. Holliday was born in Cleburne County in Alabama to the late H.J. Holliday and Sara Ann Snow Holliday. He retired as an electrical maintenance engineer after 35 years of service with Mead Corporation.

Mr. Holliday was a Navy veteran, serving on the USS Vicksburg during World War II. A resident of Cottonton, Ala., he was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret M. Holliday of Cottonton; a son and daughter-in-law, R. Sanford and Peggy Porter Holliday of Vicksburg; and one grandson, Sanford Porter Holliday.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Grimes officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Vance Memorial Chapel of Phenix City, Ala.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

ORA MAE JACKSON

Ora Mae Jackson died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 56.

Mrs. Jackson was retired. She was a member of Oak Grove M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Johnny Jackson Jr., Ambrose Jackson and Clarence Jackson; and three sisters, Mary Helen Harris, Jeanette Jackson and Hattie Jackson.

She is survived by three sons, Lee Jackson of Minneapolis and Charles Smith and Chester Smith, both of Vicksburg; four daughters, Brenda Williams of Vicksburg, Lisa J. Clark of Atlanta, Darlene Jackson of Rolling Fork and LeDora Jackson of Dallas; two brothers, Leonard Jackson of Fitler and Andrew Jackson of Vicksburg; two sisters, Addie Lee Jones of Dayton, Ohio, and Lodis Smith of Vicksburg; her father, Johnny Jackson; nieces and nephews, including Dock Hall III; 16 grandchildren; and cousins and other relatives.

LOIS JANES EDWARDS PARKS

Lois Janes Edwards Parks died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Clinton Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 78.

Mrs. Parks was born in Faulkville, Ala., and had been a Utica resident for the past 23 years. She was a homemaker.

She was a member and Elder at Utica Christian Church and was a former member of First Christian Church of Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Grady Parks.

Survivors include one son, Edward Marvin Parks of Utica; two daughters, Bonnie Parks Wood of Vicksburg and Joyce Parks Best of Raymond; one brother, Roy Edwards Jr. of Great Falls, Mont.; one sister, Alma Jewell Richardson of Memphis; and four grandchildren, John David Wood of Vicksburg, Erin McKenzie Parks of Meridian, Robert Marvin Best of Raymond and Taylor Coleman Parks of Destin, Fla.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg with the Rev. Hancell Bankester officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica and from noon Wednesday until the service at the funeral home in Vicksburg.

Pallbearers will be John Jones, Roger Jones, Doug Womack, Hal Hutchins, Tony Cain, Milton Jones, Dalton Hutchins and Seth Jones.
