BERTIE LOIS WILKINS MORGAN

EUDORA, Ark. Bertie Lois Wilkins Morgan died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Olive Branch Nursing Home in Tallulah. She was 80.

A resident of Eudora, Ark., Mrs. Morgan was born in Plain Dealing, La., to the late James F. Wilkins Sr. and Hattie Newton Wilkins. She was a homemaker and member of Eudora Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Janice M. Bettencourt of Vicksburg and Marilyn Nunnelee of Eudora; five grandchildren, Deidre Dickinson of Fort Worth, Texas, Christ Nunnelee of Memphis, Trent Nunnelee of Monroe, La., and Kathy Cain and Scott Nunnelee, both of Vicksburg; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Eudora. Burial will follow under the direction of Griffin-Steele Funeral Services of Eudora.

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Olive Branch Nursing Home in Tallulah.

DONALD JOSEPH RIDDLE

Donald Joseph “Donnie” Riddle died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 61.

Mr. Riddle was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was the son of the late Claude and Mary Elizabeth Schaffer Riddle.

He worked as a clerk for Kansas City Southern Railroad for 35 years. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Mike Riddle and Buddy Salmon; and a sister, Rita Evans.

Survivors include his wife, Beryl O. Riddle of Vicksburg; two daughters, Tara Riddle Hearn of Redwood and Brandy Riddle Hull of Vicksburg; two brothers, Albert Riddle of Bovina and Billy Riddle of Vicksburg; five sisters, Annie Mae Mahoney, Margaret Bucci, Pat Middleton and Barbara Cesare, all of Vicksburg, and Betty Rooks of Jackson; one grandson, Joseph Kip Hull of Vicksburg; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with Mike Fields and James O’Riordan officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Frantz, Joe Loviza, Gary Hearn, Renny Selby, Mark Selby, Wade Flowers, Mike Redditt and Alonzo Spinks.

Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and Ted Frisbee, Garland Cook, Ben Givens, John R. Shiers, Dick Marble, John Ledlow, Guy Ballard, Guy Creekmore, Melvin Franklin, Joe Dan Rushing, Larry McWilliams, Wren Way and Bill Mangum.

CLARENCE EARL SANFORD

Clarence Earl Sanford died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002. He was 69.

Mr. Sanford retired as a mechanic from Osborn Ford in Tallulah. He was an Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Lucas, and a brother, Joe Morgan.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille Grady Sanford of Vicksburg; two sons, Timothy Sanford of Vicksburg and Tony Sanford of Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters, Linda Sanford and Cathy Sanford, both of Vicksburg; his father, A.D. Sanford; a brother, Melvin Underwood of New York, N.Y.; nieces; nephews; and six grandchildren.

AUGUSTINE N. SHELLEY

Services for Augustine N. Shelley will be at noon Saturday at Bethlehem M.B. Church with the Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial will follow at

Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Shelley died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 62.

A retired nurse, Mrs. Shelley was a member of Bethlehem M.B. Church. She was affiliated with the National Institution for Certification of Health Care Sterile Processing Distribution.

She was also a member of Paramount Social and Civic Club and C.B. Club No. 711.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Junior Nailor and Willie B. Parker Nailor.

Survivors include her husband, Clyde Shelley Sr.; two sons, Clyde Shelley Jr. of Little Rock, Ark., and Joe Nathan Shelley of Birmingham, Ala.; one daughter, Kimberly Shelley of Vicksburg; two sisters, Mattie Carter Cain of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Josephine Walton of Vicksburg; three grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

JAMES SIMS

James Sims died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was 90.

A retired contractor, Mr. Sims was a veteran of World War II. He was a member and deacon at New Mount Zion M.B. Church.

He was a member of American Legion Tyner-Ford Post No. 213.

Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Sims; his parents, James Sims Sr. and Martha Davis Sims; a brother, Joe Sims; and two sisters, Josephine Thomas and Rosie Lee Williams.

Survivors include a sister, Roberta Sims Jones of Lansing, Mich.; cousins; and nephews, including Michael Jones, Leon Williams and Joseph Williams.

CHARLIE TURNER

HERMANVILLE Charlie Turner died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Claiborne County Hospital. He was 77.

Mr. Turner was a member of First Christian Church in Hermanville and was retired from Farmers Co-op.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Fannie Turner; two brothers, Evans Turner and Zack Turner; three sisters, Lillie Mae Turnipseed, Mary L. Hampton and Gladys Windom; a daughter, Clara Turner; a son, Ira Turner; and a grandson, Robert Turner Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Mae Eulice Turner of Hermanville; eight sons, Carl Thompson of Chicago, Willie Turner of Vicksburg, Keith Beasley of Pattison, Huron Turner of Port Gibson and Albert Turner Sr., Elbert Turner, Robert Turner Sr. and Charlie Turner Jr., all of Hermanville; two daughters, Estella McKenzie of Vicksburg and Mildred Hedrick of Pattison; two brothers, Horace Turner of Pattison and Louis Ruffin of Chicago; four sisters, Liza Ann Turner and Lucille Reeder, both of Hermanville, and Johnnie McKay and Inez Washington, both of Pattison; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

ALMETA C. WALLACE

Services for Almeta C. Wallace will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul M.B. Church in Dermott, Ark. Burial will follow in Dermott.

Mrs. Wallace died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 79.

A former resident of Dermott, Mrs. Wallace had lived in Vicksburg for four years. She retired as a teacher from the Dermott Public Schools and worked for the Cooperative Extension Service.

She was a member of Elected Triumph Chapter No. 348 OES in Dermott, the Foster-Grandparents Plan and St. Paul M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, L.C. Wallace; her parents, the Rev. Elvis Gordon and Pearl Gordon; two sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include a sister, Gevordia Thrower of Bearden, Ark.; four grandchildren, including Shirley Bowman Sanders of Vicksburg; and seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and other relatives including members of the Hill, Bowman and Sanders families of Vicksburg.
