DAVID CONRAD

Services for David “Kirk” Conrad will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 3 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Conrad died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 81.

Born in Flora, he moved to Vicksburg in 1947. He graduated from Culkin Academy High School. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and served 30 years with the Mississippi National Guard. He worked as a electrical and temperature control engineer at Waterways Experiment Station and as an independent heating and air contractor. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

He is survived by his wife, Jeralean S. Conrad of Vicksburg; three sons, David Conrad of Livermore, Calif., Neal Conrad of Albany, Ore., and Teddy Joe Conrad of Vicksburg; one brother, Jones A. Conrad of Redwood; and two sisters, Annie Williams of Vicksburg and Emily Knight of Utica; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Benny Grantham, Jack Brown, Tom McEwen, Dan Knight, Clyde McKinney and David Williams.

SHIRLEY MAE COSBY

Shirley Mae Cosby died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 48.

Mrs. Cosby was a member of Mount Pisgah M.B. Church.

She is survived by three sons, Daryl F. Cosby of Irving, Texas, and Dewayne L. Cosby and Bradley R. Cosby, both of Vicksburg; one daughter, Mary E. Cosby of Vicksburg; her parents, Aaron and Ernestine Miller Cosby; five brothers, Aaron Cosby Jr. of Edwards and Milton Cosby, Benny Cosby, Hyman Cosby and Brent Cosby, all of Vicksburg; two sisters, Annie Smith of Vicksburg and Selena Reed of Belzoni; nieces; nephews; cousins; and two grandchildren and other relatives, including Hazel Edwards of LaTuente, Calif.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie J. Hardy officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

DORIS B. CURTIS

UTICA Doris B. Curtis died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Pleasant Hills Nursing Home. She was 81.

Mrs. Curtis was a native of Claiborne County and a lifelong resident of Utica. She was a member of the 20th Century Club and chairman of the Utica Library Board. She was a member of Utica Christian Church where she was also a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship for more than 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dollie Beasley.

She is survived by her son, Charles Curtis of Utica; her grandson, Leonard Curtis III of Utica; and her granddaughter, Lisa Shelley of Clinton.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Utica Christian Church. Burial will follow at Utica Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica.

Pallbearers will be Glen Curtis, Gene Cowart, Billy Curtis, Gene Dalhart, Jessie Curtis and Ellis Strong.

MATTHEW S. POLK

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. Matthew S. Polk died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Harlee Manor Nursing Home in Springfield, Pa. He was 84.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Polk was a veteran of World War II..

He was preceded in death by his wife, Capie L. Polk; and his parents, Paul Polk and Alice Downing Polk.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Quin Polk; his son, Matthew S. Polk Jr. of Gibson Island, Md.; his daughter, Capie Polk Baily of Ankara, Turkey; two sisters, Alice Williamson and Eleanor Powell; and a grandson.

Services were Saturday at Griffith Funeral Chapel in Norwood, Pa.

EDA SIMS

FAYETTE Eda “Muh” Sims died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Natchez Regional Medial Center. She was 87.

Born in Jefferson County, Mrs. Sims was a lifelong member of St. Mariah Baptist Church in Fayette.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald Montgomery and Ella Mae Kelly; her husband, Jude Sims; and three brothers, Charlie Montgomery, Clyde Montgomery and George Montgomery.

She is survived by four daughters, Ruby Harried of Jackson, Bessie Sims of Chicago, Lela Buie of Fayette and Willie Mae Kennedy of Memphis; nieces; nephews; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, friends and other relatives, including Bernice Sims and Hattie White, both of Fayette.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mariah Baptist Church with the Rev. John Frye officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Baptist Church Cemetery in Fayette.

Visitation will be from 2 until 6 today at Spencer Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Wells, Cedric Doss, Wayne Gales, Stan Linson, Robert Jackson, Jonathan Green and Marvin Eanochs.

H.C. WALKER

H.C. Walker died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at DeKalb Medical Center in Decatur, Ga. He was 80.

Mr. Walker retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in World War II. He was a member and deacon at New Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura F. Walker; his parents, Tom Walker and Minnie Jackson; four brothers, Aaron Walker, Melvin Walker, Roosevelt Walker and Willie Walker; and two sisters, Estella Walker and Virginia Walker.

Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Erves of Decatur; a stepdaughter, Janice Winters of Vicksburg; two sisters, Ora Walker of Vicksburg and Delilah Walker of Oakland, Calif.; and nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and other relatives, including members of the Walker, Jackson, Tribble and Smith families.
