MacKAYLA BELL
PORT GIBSON MacKayla Bell, infant daughter of Vanessa Bell and Michael Bell, both of Port Gibson, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at University Medical Center.
In addition to her parents, MacKayla is survived by a sister, Myesha Bell of Port Gibson; her maternal grandmother, Delores Thornton of Port Gibson; her maternal grandfather, Robert Hall of Port Gibson; her paternal grandmother, Dorothy Bell of Vicksburg; aunts; uncles; and other relatives.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Bell Family Cemetery in the Willows community with the Rev. Eddie Walls officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Thompson Funeral home of Port Gibson.
WILLIE P. COOPER
Willie P. Cooper died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 77.
Mr. Cooper was retired from AT&T in Chicago. He was of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pink and Inez C. Cooper, and a brother, James Cooper.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Flynn Cooper of Vicksburg; two daughters, Geraldine Cooper and Cynthia Brady; a stepdaughter, Theresa Farrell; three sisters, Bessie Strong of Atlanta and Frances Brown and Gladys Johnson, both of Monroe, Ga.; and four grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three stepgreat-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles K. Chiplin officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
MARY CHRISTINE MARTIN GWINNER
TEMPE, Ariz. Mary Christine Martin Gwinner died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, in Tempe, Ariz. She was 67.
A native of Vicksburg, Mrs. Gwinner had lived in the Tempe area for the last 30 years. She was a graduate of Carr Central High School. She was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father W.A. “Will” Martin; her mother, Maggie Martin; her brother, W.A. “Bill” Martin Jr.; and two sisters, Marguerite Andrews and Laura Holliday.
Survivors include her daughter, Pam Pastor of Cave Creek, Ariz.; her son, Dr. Kevin Patrick Gwinner of Manhattan, Kan.; her sister, Betty Martin Pace of Vicksburg; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

BERNICE MARGUERITE MOORE HAWKES
BATON ROUGE Bernice Marguerite Moore Hawkes died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Lakewood Quarters Nursing Home in Baton Rouge. She was 77.
Born in Swiftown, Miss., Mrs. Hawkes was employed as a nutrition director for Tensas Parish Council on aging. She was a member of St. Joseph Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Sidney Moore Sr. and Lula Bernice Moore; her son, John Leslie Hawkes; and two sisters, Minnie Louis Moore Bass and Gladys Lyndle Moore Crossgrove.
She is survived by two sons, Cecil Wayne Kirkpatrick of Baton Rouge and Harold Denson Kirkpatrick Jr. of St. Joseph; three daughters, Patsy Ann Kirkpatrick Bean of Niceville, Fla.; Robyn Kay Hawkes of Baton Rouge and Marguerite Hawkes Bradley of Vicksburg; three brothers, David Edward Moore of Brandon and John Sidney Moore II and Tommy Ernest Moore, both of St. Joseph; and 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in St. Joseph.
Pallbearers will be Leslie Bradley, John Michael Goodwin, Jacob Hawkes, Patrick Hawkes, Gabe Kirkpatrick and Michael Kirkpatrick.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest Hestle, Mark Melville, Mike Melville, Philip Melville, Jamie Moore and Lawrence Perritt.
EMMER FISHER LACEY
Services for Emmer Fisher Lacey will be at noon Sunday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home in charge. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Lacey died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. She was 85.
She was a member of Morning Star M.B. Church at Eagle Lake where she was a mother. She was also a member of the Mount Alban Union Burial Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eligah Lacey; two sons, Willie Slater Jr. and Roosevelt Slater; her parents, Hampton Fisher and Freddie Gray; and her sister, Evelyn Smith.
She is survived by five sons, Robert Slater of Harvey, Ill., Leroy Slater of Bellwood, Ill., Johnny Slater of Los Angeles and Sylvester Lacey and Luster Lacey, both of Vicksburg; four daughters, Annie L. Slaughter, Katherine Brooks, Dorothy Brewer and Everlena Parnell, all of Vicksburg; 32 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Cornelius Miller of San Diego and Robert Smith Sr. of Vicksburg.
Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
REV. EDDIE LANE
Services for the Rev. Eddie Lane will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Travelers Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Locust Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Williams Funeral Service.
Rev. Lane died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 65.
He was a retired employee of Mississippi Power & Light. He was the pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church of Edwards and a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pallee Lane and Leroy Lane Sr.; his brother, Henry Lane; and four sisters, May Ester Gattin, Margaree Gordon, Virgil Ware and Pallee Leggett.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Lane; two daughters, Joyce Ann Allen of Vicksburg and Eddie Allen of Mableton, Ga.; two brothers, Joseph Lane of Mayersville and Leroy Lane Jr., of Riviera Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Roberta Lane of Rolling Fork and Rosie Lee Richardson and Flora B. Gibson, both of Anguilla; five grandchildren; and other relatives.
