McKINNEY

James H. McKinney died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was 81.

A native of Hope, Ark., Mr. McKinney had lived in Vicksburg since 1946. He was employed with Refuge Oil Mill as a salesman/buyer and bookkeeper. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Amory and a supporter of Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca “Sunny” Hilton McKinney of Vicksburg; his son, Pat McKinney of Vicksburg; his daughter, Becky Pugh; his brother, Thomas P. McKinney of Atlanta, Texas; his sister, Marilyn M. Beard of Harrison, Ark.; and his granddaughter, Rebecca Allison McKinney of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Ed Hightower and Jim Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Sam Corson, Bert Hamill, Phil Thornton, Tim Welp and Larry Caviness.

Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Hughes and Charles “Chip” Hughes.

Memorials may be made to Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church, 335 Bowie Road, Vicksburg, Miss. 39183.

CECILIA BURDETTE PETERSON

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. Cecilia “Cele” Burdette Peterson died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in Chattanooga, She was 81.

Mrs. Peterson was reared in Jackson and graduated from Millsaps College in 1942. She moved to Vicksburg in 1944. She was a homemaker, Brownie and Cub Scout leader and a member of the Junior Auxiliary. She served in the mother’s club of St. Francis Xavier and St. Aloysius Catholic Schools. She was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Billy Henry Quin and Jinx Peterson.

She is survived by two daughters, Cecilia Quin of Savannah, Ga., and Cathy Slocumb of Lookout Mountain, Tenn.; her son, J. Marvin Quin of Cincinnati, Ohio; four stepdaughters, Patricia Platte Smith, Jo Wilson, Bobbie Marascalco and Logan Cauthen Peay, all of Vicksburg; two sisters, Nary Russ and Ethel Clement, both of Jackson; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Holy Trinity with the Rev. Michael Nations officiating under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10:30 until the service Thursday at the church.

RUTH ELIZABETH WILLIAMS

EDWARDS Ruth Elizabeth Williams died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 86.

A native of Sweden, Mrs. Williams had lived in Edwards since 1945. She was a retired certified nurse assistant at Hinds General Hospital in Jackson. She was a member of Edwards United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Williams.

She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Kruger of Vicksburg; three sons, Eric K. Williams of Pearl, Peter Williams of Edwards and Stefan Williams of Clinton; and two granddaughters.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Edwards United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Edwards Cemetery under the direction of Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Raymond.

Visitation will be from 5:30 until 7:30 tonight at the funeral home and from noon until the service Wednesday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Otto Logue, R.A. Logue, M.L. Atkins, J.H. Collier, Jimmy Cox, Marvin Cox, Chris Harvey and Chad Harvey.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Black Sr., Scott Rouse, Vince Morton and Dr. Daniel Edney.
