JOHN L. CLARK

UTICA John L. Clark died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 81.

Mr. Clark was born in Hinds County to the late John Clark and Bessie Hill Clark. He was a member and deacon at Popular Grove Independent Methodist Church.

A veteran of World War II, he attended Hinds County Public Schools and worked for Marathon-LeTourneau.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Marcella Clark Byrd; one sister, Edna Clark Morrow; and three brothers, A.I. Clark, M.C. Clark and J.C. Clark.

He is survived by two sisters, Margaret J. Lemon of Opelousas, La., and Jessie Lee of Jackson; a stepdaughter, Maxine Moore; two grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives, including Alma Clark of Lansing, Mich., and P.W. Morrow of Utica.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Popular Grove Methodist Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 8 p.m. today at Lakeover Funeral Home in Jackson and from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

ANTHONY GLEN EVANS

Services for Anthony Glen Evans will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Sammy Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Evans died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002. He was 35.

He is survived by his son, Anthony Lewis of Vicksburg; his daughter, Telisa Anderson of Vicksburg; his mother, Velma L. Evans of Vicksburg; his father, Johnnie Lee Truly of California; two brothers, Larry Evans of Dallas, Texas, and Tony Evans of Vicksburg; two sisters, Barbara Jean Evans of Vicksburg and Carmen Brinkley of Dallas; his maternal great-grandmother, Carolyn Evans of Vicksburg; and other relatives including Bobbie Gibbs of Vicksburg, Terry Evans of Englewood, Calif., and Patrick Brinkley of Dallas.

LEODA SINGLETON FERGUSON

Leoda Singleton Ferguson died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 97.

A homemaker, Mrs. Ferguson was a member of Bright Morning Star M.B. She was also a member of Christian Church Union Society No. 2, Christian Home Society No. 11, Mount Alban Union Society No. 10 and the mother board of Bright Morning Star M.B.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Toosie Ferguson; her daughter, Rosie Lee Washington; her parents, Frank Miller and Elizabeth Miller; and two grandsons, Lee Washington Jr. and Eddie “Soul” Washington.

She is survived by seven grandchildren, Billy Ferguson, Herbert Woodroe Ferguson, Clara Carter, Vera Washington, Joseph Washington, James Washington and Leoda Williams, all of Vicksburg; 24 great-grandchildren, 42 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives including the Miller, Henderson and Williams families, all of Vicksburg.

Services will be at noon Sunday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Alex Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

HATTIE JAMES HAYNES

Services for Hattie James Haynes will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem M.B. Church with the Revs. Willie James and Silas James Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Williams Funeral Service.

Mrs. Haynes died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 62.

She was a member of St. Luke Freewill Baptist Church, and a member of the Willing Workers Club of the Kings community.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Silas James Sr. and Fannie Lumpkin James.

She is survived by two sons, Johnny Lee James and Calvin White, both of Vicksburg; her daughter, Juliet James Maxey of Vicksburg; two brothers, the Rev. Silas James Jr. of Chicago and the Rev. Willie Lee James Sr. of Vicksburg; her sister, Rosie Lee James Versell of Vicksburg; four grandchildren; and other relatives, including Johnnie D. Flaggs of Vicksburg.

MARTHA JEAN KACKLEY

Martha Jean “Goatwoman” Kackley died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at University Medical Center. She was 55.

Born in Dearborn, Mich, Mrs. Kackley had lived in Vicksburg most of her life. She was a former private-duty nurse.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Lea Brewer; her father, George W. Brewer; and her brother, Wayne Brewer.

She is survived by her brother, Bill Brewer of Vicksburg; three daughters, Jeannie Bohn of Vicksburg, Capt. Ginger Kackley of Waynesville, Mo., and Leann Drege of Detroit; two sons, Frank Kackley of Vicksburg and Jimmy Kackley of Moselle; and nine grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Goodrum Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Spence officiating.
