[10/09/01] A Vicksburg man was found innocent in Hinds County last week after having been charged in the death of a woman who died six years ago.

Michael Vance Jensen, 38, 1105 Monroe St., was acquitted by jurors after a three-day trial and faces no further charges.

He had been arrested in September 2000, five years after the body of Katherine Diane Carr, who was 49, was found in the back seat of her car parked near the Pearl River Sept. 11, 1995.

At the time of the arrest, Detective Tommy Nelson of the Jackson Police Department said Carr, Jensen and his father were living in the same house in North Jackson when Carr was killed. Nelson also said Jensen became a suspect about a year after Carr was found dead of head trauma, but he did not know why Jensen was not arrested at the time.

Hinds County Assistant District Attorney Glenda Haynes said Monday that jurors deliberated for more than two hours before returning the verdict.

Haynes said one witness had died since the case began and another changed her story.

Judy Barnett, Jensen’s attorney, was in court this morning and could not be reached.
