CARL C. GRIFFIN

TALLULAH Carl C. Griffin died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at his home in Tallulah. He was 87.

Mr. Griffin was born in West Carroll Parish and had lived in Tallulah for 57 years.

Mr. Griffin was employed as a security guard after retiring from the Tallulah Police force.

He was a member of the Municipal Police Association and a member of the United Pentecostal Church.

Mr. Griffin was preceded in death by his wife, Maybelle Fowler Griffin; two grandsons, James Edward Machen and Bobby Ray Rawles Jr.; and four brothers, Clyde Griffin, Everett Griffin, Hubert Griffin and Ester Lee Griffin.

He is survived by two daughters, Reba G. Rinicker of Tallulah and Peggy G. Rawles of Rayville, La.; one brother, Bess Griffin of Oak Grove, La.; three sisters, Mildred McGowen, Willie Mae White and Hazel Carr, all of Monroe; four grandchildren, Carl L. Machen of Start, La., Lee Ann Tanner of Rayville and Bill Machen and Carla Ezell, both of Tallulah; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the United Pentecostal Church in Tallulah with the Rev. Greg Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah.

Visitation will be from noon until the hour of the service at the church.

Pallbearers are Eric Givens, Ricky Killingsworth, Richard Williamson, Lloyd Fondren, Larry McGaha and James Rinicker.

Honorary pallbearers will be Police Chief Earl Pinkney, Allen Machen, Clarence Hall, Donell Rose, Harold Ogden, William Givens and Luther Butler.

MARY BURKS KELLY

Mary Burks Kelly died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 93.

Mrs. Kelly was a former member of St. Paul’s M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, M.C. Mixon; a son, Melvin Mixon; her parents; two brothers, Eddie Burks and George Burks; and a sister, Annie Belle Burks.

Mrs. Kelly is survived by two daughters, Carrie Mae Mitchell and Ruthie Hall, both of Vicksburg; one son, William Kelly of Vicksburg; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; the Burks and Robinson families; and friends and relatives.

Robbins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

JAMES M. SHEPARD

James M. Shepard died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 81.

Mr. Shepard was a member of the Baptist faith and a retired postal worker.

He served in the Army during World War II, and was a member of the Elks Lodge and Tyner-Ford Post 213 of the American Legion.

Mr. Shepard was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Annie Carter Shepard.

He is survived by a sister, Claudine Marley of Southfield, Mich.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

MICHAEL GLENN SWEET

Michael Glenn Sweet died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Central Mississippi Medical Center. He was 34.

Mr. Sweet, a native of New Jersey, was employed with Katz Brothers and had lived in Vicksburg for 18 years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marcia R. Inch.

Mr. Sweet is survived by his father, Robert E. Sweet of Las Vegas; his stepmothers, Sharon Sweet of Las Vegas and Janet Sweet of Connecticut; a sister, Donna Battalio of Vicksburg; two brothers, Daniel Collins and Brian Sweet, both of Las Vegas; an aunt and uncle, Bill and Nancy Carkhuff of South Carolina; two nephews, Michael and Bobby Battalio, both of Vicksburg; a niece, Brianna Collins of Connecticut; and two cousins, Robin Crawford and Gary Carkhuff, both of Chicago, Ill.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from noon until the hour of the service Monday.

Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
