[02/18/02]The Porters Chapel Academy Lady Eagles will face Wayne Academy in the first round of the Academy-A state tournament Tuesday in Marks, and face a tough road through the brackets.

If PCA (20-11) gets by Wayne (14-12), they’ll face host school Delta Academy, which has knocked PCA from the state tournament in three of the last four seasons.

South State champion Riverdale (34-1) would be a likely semifinal opponent if PCA can get that far, but the Lady Eagles must first tackle a young Wayne team that starts two sophomores and one freshman.

“I think it’s going to be a close game,” WA coach Dale Bowen said. “… (W)e’ve got to do some things good. We’re definitely not going in thinking we’re going to lose.”
