ALBERT JOHNSON

Services for Albert Johnson will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Greater Mount Lebanon Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar hill Cemetery under the direction of Robbins Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Wednesday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. Thursday until the service at the church.

Mr. Johnson died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 85.

A native of Mississippi, he had worked for Anderson-Tully Company as a machine operator for several years. He was a member of Greater Mount Lebanon M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom Johnson and Mary Johnson; two sons; a sister; and three brothers, including his twin.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Johnson of Vicksburg; four sons, Charles Brown Jr. and Eugene Brown, both of Vicksburg, Gerald Brown of Suisan City, Calif., and Michael Brown of Stafford, Va.; his daughter, Earlean Johnson of Jackson; three sisters, Hattie Q. Stokes, Mary Knight and Virgie Clay, all of Detroit; three brothers, Lee Johnson of Seattle, Wash., Elliott Johnson of Detroit and Cornelius Johnson of Memphis; four grandchildren; and other relatives.

EVA JEAN BROWN

Eva Jean Brown died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 58.

Mrs. Brown was born in Nashville to the late Jay Frank and Helen R. Johnson Brown. She had lived in Vicksburg most of her life and was of the Catholic faith.

She is survived by two sons, James Flowers and Joseph Flowers, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Karen Bradshaw and Stacy Graves, both of Vicksburg; a stepdaughter, Mary V. Brown of Shreveport, La.; two brothers, Jay Frank Brown Jr. of Vicksburg and Ernest Brown of Port Gibson; one sister, Sallie Vinson of Vicksburg; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at a later date under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

THELMA PITTS McCARTY

TALLULAH Thelma Pitts McCarty died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Madison Parish Hospital. She was 79.

Born in Baton Rouge, Mrs. McCarty had lived in Madison Parish for 30 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Willow Bayou Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Lee McCarty; and a daughter, Leatrice Joy McCarty.

She is survived by three sons, Wilfred L. McCarty of Pineville, La., Lonnie M. McCarty of Oakdale, La., and Basil A. McCarty of DeRidder, La.; two daughters, Lois Ann Strothman of Jackson and Molly Matthews of Tallulah; two sisters, Augusta Smitherman of Walker, La., and Willie Sue Jackson of Bastrop, La.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Gaston officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Basil A. McCarty, Lonnie M. McCarty, Johnie L. Matthews III, Charles E. Strothman, Nathaniel L. Matthews, Christopher R. Matthews, Johnie L. Matthews IV and Basil Dion McCarty.

Honorary pallbearers will be Scott McCarty and Johnie L. Matthews.

DR. HOLLIS BAILEY TODD

CLINTON Dr. Hollis Bailey Todd died today, Feb. 19, 2002, at his home in Clinton. He was 84.

Dr. Todd was reared in the Carolina community in Itawamba County. He graduated from Amory High School, Mississippi College, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Louisiana State University. He also attended the University of Southern California at Los Angeles and the University of Mississippi.

He was the pastor of several Baptist churches, including Beech Grove in Claiborne County; Golden Meadows, Istroma and Port Allen churches in Louisiana; Jessiville Baptist Church in Hot Springs; Calvary Baptist in Yazoo City; Pilgrim’s Rest in Magnolia; Calvary Baptist in West Point; Pheba Baptist in Clay County; and First Baptist in Vicksburg. He also founded the Glass Community Church in Vicksburg, which is now Immanuel Baptist Church. He was pastor of the Pattison Baptist Church in Claiborne County for 30 years.

He taught at Ouachita Baptist University from 1947 until 1949. He served as Baptist Student Union director at Ouachita Baptist University.

From 1949 until 1984, he taught at Mississippi College and chaired the Division of Speech Communications. He coached debate and established the campus radio station, WHJT.

He was a member of the Mississippi Speech Communication Association where he was president and chaired a number of committees.

He and his wife established the Hollis and Julia Todd Scholarships and the McAmis-Todd Scholarships at Mississippi College.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Egar and Cordelia Boozer Todd.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Julia McAmis Todd of Clinton; a sister, Fay Ledbetter of Amory; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wintergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Cliff Nelson and John Slade and Danny Champion officiating.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Wednesday until the service at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Roberts, Mike Lefluer, Charles Loyd, Russ Brashear, Jerry Trim, Henry Bishop, Chuck Lewis and Earl Loyd.
