ROSA COX

Rosa Cox died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 93.

A housewife, Mrs. Cox was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Los Angeles.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pat Sanchez; her parents Professor Joseph David Mayfield and Willie Mae Mayfield; four brothers, Arthur Mayfield, Alphonso Mayfield, Joseph David Mayfield and Elmo Mayfield; and three sisters, Maeonia Chambers, Willie Mae Mayfield and Vashti Mayfield.

She is survived by two sisters, Clara Miller of Vicksburg and Ethelyn Artis of Lancaster, Calif.; a granddaughter, Paula Matthew Sanchez of New Orleans; one great-granddaughter; and other relatives.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of the arrangements.

LOUIS N. ELLIS

PORT GIBSON Louis N. Ellis died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson. He was 86.

A lifelong resident of Port Gibson, Mr. Ellis attended Tulane University and Soulee Business College. He owned Port Gibson Trading Company and was an industrial representative for the State of Mississippi. He was a member of the Lions Club and the Port Commission. He was elected to the Board of Aldermen. He was a member of Port Gibson United Methodist Church where he was on the Board of Stewards.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Burdeen Kinnebrew Ellis; and his parents, Michael and Mary Ellis.

He is survived by three daughters, Sharon Ellis Gorman of Greenville, Texas, Susanne Ellis Middleton of Jackson and Sonya Ellis Nutt of Clinton; a brother, Phillip Joseph Ellis of Greenwood; six grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson with the Revs. Mark Duncan and David Harrison officiating.

Visitation will be from noon Friday until the service at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Greenlee, Charles Greenlee, Dr. Michael Ellis, E.G. Ellis Jr., Joseph Gordon Ellis, Robert Gage, Dr. Jared Ellis and Phillip Joseph Ellis Jr.

MARY BURKS KELLY

Services for Mary Burks Kelly will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Barridge M.B. Church in Utica with the Rev. Phillip Burks officiating. Burial will follow at Morrison Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday at Robbins Funeral Home and from noon Saturday until the service. Wake will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday.

Mrs. Kelly died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 93.

Mrs. Kelly was a former member of St. Paul’s M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, M.C. Mixon; a son, Melvin Mixon; her parents, Tom Burks and Cora Burks; two brothers, Eddie Burks and George Burks; and a sister, Annie Belle Burks.

Mrs. Kelly is survived by two daughters, Carrie Mae Mitchell and Ruthie Hall, both of Vicksburg; one son, William Kelly of Vicksburg; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; the Burks and Robinson families; and other relatives.

ELNORA FIELDS MACE

LEARNED Elnora Fields Mace died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Rockdale Hospital in Conyers, Ga. She was 74.

Born in Learned, Mrs. Mace attended Barridge School and CM&I in Jackson. She was employed with Hinds County School District. She was a member of New Oak Ridge M.B. Church where she was the director of the choir and coordinated programs for the church.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Roy Peter Mace and Roscoe Mace Jr.; and her father, Jonas Fields.

She is survived by her husband, Roscoe Peter Mace of Learned; three daughters, Gloria Mace Morrison of Memphis and Betty Mace Godholt and Regina Mace Crowder, both of Stone Mountain, Ga.; a son, Donald Mace Sr. of Edwards; her mother, Pearlie Ann Fields of Jackson; a sister, Ora Lee Fields Morrison of Memphis; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at noon Saturday at New Oak Ridge M.B. church. Burial will follow at Henry Cemetery in Edwards under the direction of Westhaven Funeral Home.

SAM NEAL SR.

Services for Sam Neal Sr. will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem M.B. Church with the Rev. Henry Mayfield Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Second Union Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mr. Neal died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 91.

He retired from Anderson-Tully Company. He was a member of Mount Zion M.B. Church No. 4.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Neal; a son, Nathaniel Neal; and his parents, John Neal and Fannie Johnson Neal.

He is survived by five sons, Sam Neal Jr. and Leon Neal, both of Vicksburg, Jimmy Neal, Clarence Neal and John Lee Neal, all of Chicago; five daughters, Eliza Sanders, Clara Cotton, Mary Neal and Ernestine Neal, all of Chicago, and Daisy Reed of Vicksburg; his sister, Emma Magee of Vicksburg; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
