Ice at Bloom Fountain means…

Published 12:00 am Wednesday, February 27, 2002

Ice hangs from Bloom Fountain at Crawford and Monroe streets in downtown this morning after overnight temperatures dropped to 24. Since the fountain was donated by Vicksburg resident Louis Bloom in 1927, it has served as a testament to extremely cold temperatures in the city. The National Weather Service has predicted that tonight’s and Thursday morning’s lows will dip even more, to between 15 and 20. The fountain features a 5-foot-tall statue of Greek goddess Hebe, who represents the cupbearer to the gods in Greek mythology. The statue is cast in bronze, and the basin and the pedestal are made of granite. (The Vicksburg Post/C. TODD SHERMAN)
