MARY SUSAN RAY BROWN

Mary Susan Ray Brown died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 51.

Mrs. Brown was a retired school teacher with the Vicksburg Warren School District. She was a member of The Vicksburg Benevolence Homecoming Club, the En Vogue Social Civic Club and Bethlehem M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grander E. Ray and Lillian Shelley Ray.

She is survived by her husband, Leslie F. Brown of Vicksburg; her son, Grander Brown of Vicksburg; four sisters, Lillian C. Ray of Shreveport, Grangerette Ray Haynes, Sally Ray Johnson and Rosie Ray Smith, all of Vicksburg; five godsons, Robert Brown, Corey Brown, Leonard Brown and Quinton Brown, all of Albion, Mich., and Ronnie Brown of Vicksburg; and three goddaughters, Donnya Murphy of Jackson, Ahquuinette Brown Kemp of Albion and Shaquita Schumpert of Starkville.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of the arrangements.

JOHNNY EDWARD JABOUR

Services for Johnny Edward Jabour will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Jabour died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 74.

Mr. Jabour was a native of Vicksburg and a graduate of Carr Central High School where he was on the football team and was elected to the high school Hall of Fame. He then went to Millsaps College in Jackson where he continued his successes on the football team. He was captain of the team and was named Mister Major, one of the highest honors at the school.

After Millsaps, he attended law school at the University of Mississippi. In college he was named to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

Mr. Jabour was a Realtor, real estate developer and insurance executive and won a number of awards for his development work, including the Gold Medallion Award of Excellence, the Historical Heritage Award in Architecture for the downtown Kaleel Building from the Mississippi Historic Foundation and the Better Homes and Gardens National Real Estate Developer of the Year Award. He also received the Unsung Hero Award in 1998 and the Blue Ribbon Home Award from the American Homes Foundation.

Mr. Jabour served as president of the Warren County Board of Realtors and chairman of the Mississippi Board of Realtors, was a member of the National Board of Realtors in Washington, D.C., and was chairman of the Mississippi Real Estate Commission.

He was a former member of the Vicksburg Jaycees, was a member of the Vicksburg Rotary Club and was a member and board president of St. George Antiochan Orthodox Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kaleel and Marie Jabour; two sisters, Barbara Thomas and Evelyn Abraham; five brothers, George Jabour Sr., Michael “Mike” Jabour, Ned Jabour, Philip Jabour Sr. and Karl Jabour Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Walker Jabour; two daughters, Jil Jabour Katz and Jere Jabour, both of Dallas; two stepsons, Craig Maddox of Brandon and Dale Maddox of Madison; and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be nephews Freddy Abraham, Dr. George Ronald Abraham, George Jabour Jr., Jay Jabour, John Wayne Jabour, Kaleel Jabour, Dr. Ned Jabour, Philip Jabour Jr., George Preston Thomas and John Thomas.

Honorary pallbearers will be Emmett Atwood, Leo Boolos, Russell Hawkins, Mark Katz, Dr. Scott Katz, Dr. Tom Louis, Eddie Monsour, Dr. Dewey Purser, Frances Smith, Frances Thomas and Frank Youngblood.

Memorials may be donations to the American Lung Association, Crosses Across America or a favorite charity.

JOHN B. PETTWAY

John B. “Boots” Pettway died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 64.

Born in Yazoo County, Mr. Pettway had lived in Vicksburg for the last 46 years. He was a former employee of Neill Butane Company. He retired from the Warren County Road Department. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Elenor Pettway; a daughter, Cindy Aline Pettway; and three brothers, James “Sonny” Pettway, Bobby Pettway and Billy Pettway.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Pettway of Vicksburg; two sons, John B. Pettway Jr. of Vicksburg and Jason H. Pettway of Mount Olive; a daughter, Christine Pettway of Yazoo City; his brother, Jessie “Rudy” Pettway of Vicksburg; two sisters, Barbara Strickland and Mary Simmons, both of Vicksburg; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Howard Smith and Dwight Sibley officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Fuson, Earl Fuson, Corey Bryant, Jerry Bailey, Jason Pettway and Victor Simmons.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Caves, Larry Wilson and Matthew Bailey.
